*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

This is great, thanks!

I really need to get in on this, please add me to the list for 1 pc.

Great work DBSAR, thanks for all the time and effort youā€™re putting in on this!
Donā€™t know why Iā€™ve ignored this for so long but I really like the way itā€™s evolving.

# 767 beam0 on the interest list is now official

Nice! I had been thinking about looking into doing something like this on my Q8, can this mod be done to a regular stock Q8?

Jumping in for a 2nd one please.

Yeah, it was a stock Q8 before he modded it.

The standard Q8 tail cap metal is to thin, i had to add a 1/8ā€ thick aluminum plate inside the tail cap using JB-weld to make it thick enough to thread it so it can hold onto the tripod mounts.

Hi CJ, you currently are on the list 3 times,
174 CJ Avlis
263 CJ Avlis
447 CJ Avlis

Should I add you for a fourth?

What I am planning on doing in the interest list going forward is providing it to DBSAR sorted alphabetically by user name, so you can easily look in the first post and see where you stand. This would be updated every so often, maybe twice a month, or more often if folks want. It is pretty easy to do for me, the magic of a spreadsheet. Iā€™ll add a link to it below, but it seemed like for some reason several folks are having problems seeing the numerically ordered interest list, so donā€™t be surprised if you have problems with this one as well. Just ask for permission to see it if you need to.

Iā€™ll continue to keep up the order of interest document which I have been linking to for the past week or so as soon as people request to be added, but will update the listing in the spreadsheet sorted by peoples name just periodically, like every other week or so (as mentioned above). Hopefully this helps folks know where they stand in terms of how many lanterns they have showed interest in to date.

Interest list sorted by user name

That would be awesome idea

The list I created above is functional, but I am reworking it a bit to be easier to read. Hope to be done in a couple days or so.

So is the cooperation with Thorfire working out sofar?

Anyone know if this lantern use unprotected or protected ? I want to start shopping for some protected 18650 if it doesā€¦

It will be using unprotected of course.

Just use any 18650 you have around, and it will work, as it uses the BLF Q8 battery tube, meaning both unprotected and protected cells will fit. And it has low voltage protection, meaning I would just use unprotected 18650s in this case.

Do you think it will be ok to use unprotected 18650 for the normal people ( newbie) ?? I am fine with the unprotectedā€¦

Yep. Low voltage protection is there, like with the Q8.

And since all modes of the lantern are going to be regulated low power modes, protected cells are not really necessary.

I spoke to Barry a couple times so far via PM, once i can get a cross-section drawing done, and find somone who can to CAD design for the lantern to provide to them, then hopefully we can get it rolling more with them.

It can use both. (but will need button-tops though)

Some of the better protected cells now offer considerably higher currents of 10A continuous:

For lights with built-in low voltage shutdown Iā€™m typically okay with using unprotected cells, even in a light that could end up being left on by mistake. Although with protected cells you will have a double layer of protection if one or the other fails.

These 10A continuous protected cells may be a good compromise for those that prefer to have that double layer of protection.

However I donā€™t know everything going on with the driver for this lantern yet, so Iā€™m not sure if +10A capable cells would be required to achieve maximum output on the highest mode.

I have no idea if you tried that yet, but maybe you can ask thijsco to do some drawing? He was on the Q8 and GT projects too so he may add some experience with these projects too.
