"Group Buy" Interest: Q8 MCPCB for Luxeon V/SST40/XML/XHP50 Emitters

If haikelite ever pays me I will have to get me a set.

you are definitely a great value to flashlight companies but we prefer you on our side rather with profit companies

Yep. If they don’t pay you, I will never buy a Haikelite product every again. Keep us updated.

Yeah I am still on our side don’t worry. Just got to keep the bills paid in order to be on anyone’s side.

Money is not a driving factor for me, I am a pretty simple guy that likes toys. I always have what is best for the consumer at heart. After all I generally only work on lights that I want myself.

By working with the companies directly I am able to get BLF style tech into factory lights.

Yes, I do expect to be paid for that service, it takes a LOT of time to make production ready drivers / improvements to lights. The MT09R for example easily has well over 100+ hours of R&D at this point. I do not feel bad in the slightest for feeling that is worth something.

It is. You have no idea how much it is worth what you are giving to us.

Some BLF members would like to have BLF Q8 PCB with soldered cold white 6500K Luxeon V LEDs, I'd like to know how many people would be interested,

if there is 40pcs+ interest, price would be the same (19,97€ soldered), if there is 20pcs+ interest, price would be 21,97€ soldered. Please express your interest.

If you do happen to buy some Luxeon V in 5700K or 6500K, I’d be interested in trying them out on single mcpcb’s.

What lumens should we expect with the Luxeon V 4000k?

My Q8 was making 6000lm with XPL, copper screws and bypassed springs, now it makes 7300lm with the Luxeons. I was hoping to get around 9000

I’m using 30Q cells, not sure if VTC6 will increase the lumens

Your numbers sound perfectly reasonable, my Q8 with Luxeon V ’s does almost 8000 at start-up, 7500 after 30 seconds.

9000 is not likely, that is 2250 lm per led, even the bare led at 9A does only 2300/2400 lm, substract at least 15% for reflector and lens gets you 7800 lm at most. That is if the light indeed reaches the 36A.

Tests of the new Luxeon V show it peaking at 2400-2500 lumen at about 10A. So when you add in the losses from the reflector and the lens, there’s pretty much no way you’re ever going to get 9000 lumen.

I would say your output scaled up just as it should since the Luxeon V is only capable of a couple hundred lumen brighter than the xpl. If your getting 1300 more lumen, then that’s 325 more lumen per emitter. This sounds about right.

You could always step up to the xhp50.2 and get some serious output. Maybe in the 15,000 lumen range.

This is the build that I want to see.

I should have gone that way

But the tint of the 4000k Luxeons is the best tint I’ve ever had in a flashlight. I think I will keep them, 7000lm is enough light :stuck_out_tongue:

@Anthon, if you want to see slightly higher numbers, get the Kaidomain AR lens for the Q8:

Here is some more info about it, by me

A very interesting lens to say. First lens that actually surprised me.

Has anyone actually done and documented all the mods required to do XHP50? I dont think any of those 2s2p boards or any driver has ever been tested. I guess Lexel needs to buy this PCB?

It is quite a rebuild, I have not seen it yet and also hope for a nice build post.

Is it a simple mcpcb swap to get this output output boost for a stock Q8?

With this: led4power

Do the springs need bypassed?

.
Also how do the 4000K V’s compare to a 4000K Cree, such as XPL? (as far as overall color, disregarding tint shifts/rainbow)

For me 4000K Cree can be a bit too yellowish for outdoors.

1. You need a custom spacer for it to fit, and cut the reflector to XML size.

2. You do need a spring bypass.

3. Tint and tint shift is way better on the Luxeon V compared to the Crees.

Thanks for the answers, by “spacer” do you mean a “retaining washer” like this flat bar style djozz made?
(DIY washer+M4 screw)
I suppose it could be a round washer instead of a flat bar?

Or maybe swap out the stock springs with these?

I’d really like to know if the Luxeon V 4000K is overall more white (less yellow) compared to the 4000K Crees.

I think first I’ll order 1pc. Luxeon V and install it in a single emitter light and see how I like it compared to Cree XPL 5A.

1. Yes, like djozz.

2. Yes, even I plan to put these springs in my Q8 once I receive them. They are still not as good as a proper spring bypass. This is the only way you could get 7000 lumens+ out of a non XHP50.2 light.

3. More white yes:

Got my boards today and already got my Q8 done! I’ll post more details in the Q8 modding thread
