My son is a volunteer firefighter and put the light through the wash and dryer.
The LED looks fine, but I assume I am going to need to replace the driver and wires.
Never soldered before, but I am willing to try. Nothing to lose at this point.
Has anyone tried this before?
I have a Streamlight Microstream that has been through the wash a few times. Each time it appeared to be dead but turns out it was only a loose tail cap. I tightened it up inside and have never had any problems since. See if that is your issue too
I wish it was that simple. this uses 4 AA in series in a little plastic carrier.
this is the tail springs which are just below the LED.
next is the clicky in the bottom. I believe this is the driver. It will come out with one screw, but would need to desolder the wires to get it loose.

I would talk to Streamlight. Those things are pretty tough; after all they are worn on the outside of our turnout gear. Never actually heard of one dieing. Does he use the AA battery caddy or the NiCD pack?
Either way, I’d probably reach out to Streamlight. I haven’t used their warranty service before but they are supposed to be up there with the other “S” brand.
I did that and they fixed it for free. I spent $7 on shipping.
My son has a few Streamlights for years and loves them. Only used alkaline batteries.
I mostly just wanted to see if I could fix it myself then try to improve it, but with no heatsinking and a plastic case there was not much to be done.
