New Convoy color samples...taste the rainbow

Went the @justanotherguy’s route and asked Simon if he was making the orage colored S2+ and if he’d sell me the production test. Got an answer just saying “it’s in production”

Hello.
I am also eager to enlarge my s2 + collection

Photo not best, but im not master of PS  Old photo, without s2 + desert tan.

Cool greys! Mine is more like the bottom one

I didn’t know they have so many different gray colors.

Me too. It came out when ordering

I’d buy a copper S2+ :+1:

The metal I really want is stainless steel, though, for sheer indestructibility

I have five S2+ lights already, but I’d buy lots of stainless steel S2+ hosts!

Where did you buy it ?

different greys might just be differences in the dye supplier, anodizing variables, there was always only one listing for gray S2+. Well, one for the complete flashlight and one for the host and one for the short tube version, but you get the idea

It’s called a Convoy S7.

I like mine, but I didn’t make it very high-powered. The steel host can’t really shed heat fast enough for high power levels to be safe. So I used a nanjg driver with 4x7135 chips and a Nichia 219b 92CRI 4750K emitter. I made my own firmware for it, which I call “S7” in the code repository — five regular modes and a bunch of blinkies, with offtime no-memory so it resets to moon whenever it’s off for more than half a second.

It works okay with a SF L2 clip, but the clip diameter is a bit wider than the host, so it sticks out a little. Can also work with some other clips depending on what style one likes.

The host has a polished surface which looks nice. It also holds up pretty well to scratches and abuse because it’s steel. It’s heavy though. Currently I’ve got mine inside a lightsaber hilt to provide weight and blade illumination, as a temporary thing until I build a proper saber driver.

I think the S7 also has double O-rings, which is awesome.

The Convoy S7 sounds nice

Unfortunately, it seems to be discontinued everywhere I can think of. Ah, well - it does allow some hope of a stainless steel S2+ someday…

Hey all. The three colors are in production but I don’t have an exact time-frame. The purple will be darker and hopefully a little more blue.

The copper S2+ was a limited production run and unfortunately there will not be more in the near future. It will probably happen but not in the next few months based on what Simon tells me.

A stainless S2+ is not likely unless there were extremely high demand. As ToyKeeper mentioned, stainless does not shed heat well so power would need to be relatively low and the light would be heavy. I do like the idea of stainless for a AA sized version of the S2+ though.

Since we seem to be using this thread to chat about general ideas for Convoy products - Simon should sell a flat tailcap for the S9. The current design makes the light just as long as the S2+, and it’s not a very practical tripod mount either.

How limited is this production run? Am I likely to get one if I just check the store once in a while?

Also, do you know if they will have the old UI or the new one?

Nice work J-Dub, thank Simon for us please.

Titanium for me please, I have a torch, can color it at will as desired.

Sad about no stainless. You can color it in a similar fashion as titanium.

A smaller heavier light from Convoy sounds neat. I don’t own any brass or copper lights yet keep missing the boat on those.

Drat. I have five stock S2+ lights in various configurations, and lots of hosts for assorted experiments. Barring a major upgrade or something really new, I’m unlikely to buy much more stuff from Convoy.

Assuming I could afford them, I’d buy at least six stainless steel S2+ hosts, one or two at a time.

I might even buy one or two stock lights as well - I like to have a scattering of stock lights around, so I always have a known good light of that type to fall back on if I fry, break or lose the one I was tinkering with.

That is true, although for my belt EDC, I’m willing to tolerate the weight in exchange for indestructibility. I carried an Astrolux S41S on my belt for several months, before changing to a Desert Tan S2+ because I needed throw more than raw output.

For a stainless steel S2, I’d be using a 3×7135 Biscotti driver and a Nichia 219B 90 CRI 5000K LED.

Alternatively, how about an 18650 tube light with a stainless steel bezel, body and tailcap, but a copper head section? In the vein of an Astrolux S41S, but single LED, S2+ SMO reflector, Biscotti driver and Convoy quality control instead of Astrolux shoddiness.

I’d buy one or two of those. Just because

Agreed that hydro-dipping would not be ideal (just paint). However, that pattern is completely do-able in anodizing, if one has the right tools, talent, and is willing to “paint” each one by hand.
For examples of wild anodizing patterns, just Google image-search: “Abel fishing reels”. That is the first company that comes to mind that does such anodizing, and they’ve been doing it for decades.

thats unfair about the copper, it was never offered here as an option to buy :frowning: only for those with good contacts had a chance to get… so unfair

I noticed the samples don’t have the groove in the head to make the clip reversible.

Are these colors going to configured like the newer desert tan and clear models with the groove, updated firmware and/or AR glass, or like the older ones that lack those features?

I recognize that continuous product improvement is a good thing, and that these are niche products, but the array of different permutations can be dizzying.

This cries out for a feature grid, which would probably be helpful even for some hobbyists.
