I am kinda feeling ferongr’s sentiments. Will the MCPCB be easily replaceable with a Noctigon 3XP board?

Yeah I would like to know too. It would be sweet if it can.

It looks like the MCPCB should be compatible with a Noctigon 3XP, but I haven’t actually tried it. Not sure if the dimensions are identical or just close.

We’ve asked for some changes to the MCPCB though, so I’m not sure what the final one will look like. In particular, bigger pads and moving the “+” label to eliminate a potential short. It probably also wouldn’t hurt to make it red, to boost the light’s red spectrum a little, but it’s not a big deal.

I didn’t know the red color actually serves a function. Good to know.

Only at short range when using a clear optic, so some of the internally-reflected light can leak through. And I haven’t seen it measured; it’s mostly theoretical. But LEDs tend to score really low on red emissions, so a small red boost probably at least doesn’t hurt.

Will there be a PM sent when the light is ready or will it be announced in this thread?
Not content-shaming, but this is a frustrating thread to be subscribed to.

It’s all part of the group buy fun. Patience is key, and usually rewarded.

I post updates when I find out about them. When it’s ready to buy, I plan on having PMs sent automatically to everyone on the list. Otherwise, updates go into regular thread comments and sometimes also into the first post(s). But mostly, for the past few months, we’ve been just waiting on Lumintop.

Starting to look like next year. Just hope all is going well and Lumintop hasn’t decided to silently drop the ball.

With 1200 on the list, investment in a working prototype, and easy shipping options this time, their hangover from the GT project must be really big if they decide to stop with the FW3A.

I don’t know why you would say that. It could very easily come out this year.

I hope so Wink This is coming to be an awesome light and having so much people interested on the GB would give LT a “boost” to get this out AFAP! I’m am still considering the possibility to put my name for a third light (the second for me, once the other will be for my ongoing GAW) but gonna hold this till we have more concrete news about specs and date of release !!

From everything I’ve seen soon is a very tentative term with these things. Just making an observation. I want one as much as the next person.

Lumintop surprised us with how quickly they put out the GT. They were 3 weeks into production before even telling us. So once they get approval on a final prototype they can in theory get it started in under a month. It all depends on what they’re currently focused on. Now that the GT Group buy is over they might be able to focus more on this project.

If I understand correctly, Lumintop may have been waiting for the GT project to end before putting more effort into the FW3A. But I think that’s over now, so things could potentially get moving quickly.

I’ve been using the prototype daily for like half a year now… and it’s really nice, aside from the things we asked Lumintop to fix or change. Hopefully LT proto2 will resolve all those things so we can do the final tweaks and clear it for production.

The main thing I’d fix, if possible, is communication. I think there needs to be a direct channel between someone at Lumintop and someone who is active in the project thread on BLF or TLF, so we can know what’s going on instead of guessing.

Yep, if that can be ‘fixed’ it will be priceless.

I wonder what Neal is up to now that the GT group buy is over? He speaks both languages and already has a relationship with Lumintop.

I’m a bit worried about this.

It started off as a technical tour-de-force. How to make a multiple-emitter 18650 torch with minimal materials (Fritz), state-of-the art performance, finely finished, exceptional UI (TK), no compromises.

I am dismayed to hear that there appears to be no central point of contact with Lumintop, nor any feedback after the first prototypes.

Fingers crossed that this can be turned-around.
