Portable battery-powered fan?

Looking for something that runs on rechargeable batteries that I can take camping to provide some airflow in a tent. So far, my primary contender is this one: Amazon.com

I like that it’s not tiny, and that it runs on 18650 cells which I’ve got plenty of.

Anyone have any other recommendations?

Thanks!

I don’t know enough about that one to comment. I have a small one that takes 1x18650, and its power is pretty impressive.

I would, however suggest getting it without batteries as $12 for a couple unknown-brand 2600 mAh 18650s isn’t a good deal.

This one has no way to add batteries at all. All you get is a hard wired USB cable, which means I would have to get an external battery pack for it. I wish there was a version with battery compartment built-in, but no batteries included.

Not sure if you own any cordless power tools.
Most of the pro-sumer brands (Dewalt, Makita, Milliwauki, etc.) will have a fan you can buy as a bare tool. Any of them would be a good choice. Portable and durable.

I only have a Bosch cordless drill/driver, but I don’t think they sell a portable fan.

Here is the portable fan I use every hot day and I don’t when to kill the environment by using AC, which is almost every hot day:

Works really well, has a smaller 6500k 5mm LED on the side, and supports safe CC/CV charging of the 18650 cell.

It is powerful, but it is loud at higher levels than medium. Works great though, and it was cheap.

Go to Target, Bed Bath And Beyond or ChinaMart and buy the O2 Cool 10” fan which either runs on 12vdc, or 9vdc. They use 8xD (older model) and now 6xD (newer model), which also comes with a 120vac wall wart adapter.

With a homemade barrel adapter, you can run them off of a bigger 12v AGM/SLA battery. I’ve got one of each and they are quite portable with the alkaleaks installed and they offer ~40 hours on the high setting.

They saved my bacon durning IRMA and 84 hours without power.

About $20, so buy a few.

I have the one that you linked and use it every day. Can recommend. The speed difference between the two modes is not very large.

I looked at the Dewalt, but unfortunately it’s too expensive at $80. Bummer.

About a month ago, I bought this:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B017UA3QC6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

It can run off 4 AA cells, or USB power. I use Eneloops, and it lasts a few hours on them. I really like it, and the quality seems good. It’s powerful. My only complaint is that it is a bit noisy, but I guess all small fans are like that. Okay, my only other complaint is that it only has 1 speed.

Is it noisy? Quiet enough to sleep next to?

Too loud for sleeping next to in my opinion.

An identical fan in the OP is on lightning deal right now (Sunday, June 3, 2018) on Amazon US until about 6:30pm EST. COMLIFE USB Desk Fan, 4400mAh Rechargeable Battery Operated Portable Personal Fan. 9 inch $29.74, 7.5 inch $21.24.

Thanks!

Thanks! I ordered the 7.5” model for $21.24 free shipping and no tax.

Pete, thanks for this post. Now I am shopping.

I bought a couple smaller single 18650 fans from Caseys early last year for camping. They were cheap, worked great until I tried to run it while charging, burnt both of them up.
My wife likes to have a louder fan, I don’t mind the white noise now, took me long time to get use to it, now I have trouble sleeping when its to quite.

I also like a fan during the evenings to help keep bugs away (sometimes helps). Or keeping the smoke away.

I currently use a comfort zone usb power fan, on my dresser next to my bed, just barely enough airflow. It rotates , I cant find a link to it, got it last year, Menards i think

My COMLIFE 7.5 Inch Battery Operated or USB Powered Desk Fan is being delivered today, one day after I ordered it from Amazon.

Nice. I ordered the 9” version.

Ordered: June 3
Delivered: June 5

Wouldn’t that technically be two days?

Please let us know how it performs.

I will
