WAVIEN collars are BACK! Are you interested? [group buy over]

Possibly. I have not followed it well but has anyone measured the increase of throw of a dedomed SST-40 as opposed to one with dome on, and compared that to the throw increase of a XM-L2 ? Is it just as good? In other words: how good is the photon recycling effect in the SST-40? (the wavien collar uses the same effect).

I would buy two and - same conditions as Djozz - a quality 50mm lens as well.

Would be excellent if thi came through!

Cheers,
Nico

Great Enderman, thanks for doing this! I want one, maybe two if the price goes down.

I have a few questions regarding lenses and the collar:
What f-number should a Lens have for optimal performance (meaning it collects all of the light and there is no wasted lens diameter)?

I want to put the smallest possible lens on top of a small sized collar. It should be possible to glue it directly on top if the diameter is just slightly larger or if the lens has a rim?

Thanks for arranging this! I would take one.

Some interesting reading there. Thank you :+1:

I should have known someone on here would have thought of it before me

Very true!

The mirror needs to be first surface, aka on the inside of the sphere, otherwise the glass will refract light and not just reflect.

I assume it’s about F1, they said it’s high precision quality and won’t be that cheap either, but no idea about the price.
I can ask about the dimensions and if it has a rim and all that stuff.

Yeah for sure!

Marinebeam said that the 60 degree output is perfectly suited for F1 lenses, numerical aperture = 0.5 Numerical aperture - Wikipedia
I prefer to think of it this way:
“the ratio of the (back) focal length f to the diameter of the entrance pupil D:

N=f/D”

I actually also really want a compact EDC flashlight with a wavien collar :stuck_out_tongue:
Since the collar is 32mm OD the smallest lens I would go with is also 32mm, since going smaller wouldn’t reduce the size of the light any more.

That are good news! 2 pcs for me!

Any estimates on how this Ahorton lems would perform?

I’m in for one. When I bought my last one from Wavien, it was closer to $90 for the sample. $50 is a steal. Thanks for setting this up!

 :+1:
I’ll email them on monday with how many people are interested and then hopefully get us a link to buy.

I voted earlier for one or two collars and eventually lens - depending on the price.

I’m in for maybe 2

I’m in for three, just brought a marine torch for $150 to get Waivien so yeah…

I was just about to do that when they finally got back to me after like a month of waiting for a reply :open_mouth:
Probably gonna buy 2-4 for myself, who knows how many years it will be until the next time somebody sells collars again.

Hmm, might be a good idea to get more……

In how many years expires the patent?

No idea, here in canada it’s 20 but idk about other places.
20 years form 2012 would be 2032…

I posted in your poll 2 collars.

If the aespherical lens is good and usable (focal length ec….see post Djozz) I’ll take one of those as well and depending on price perhaprs 3 collars…

Great initiative!!!

Cheers,
Nico

This light recycling tech has been in use for years in the industry (high power short arc lamps and the like). But some smartass had to come and screw this up for mankind. Of course mankind has this problem and its name is patents and intellectual property. Because of this, since I'm spirit in action and ultimately God having a human experience, next I'm going to do is to claim patents for the wheel, prostitution and air itself (so everyone who breathes will have to pay me). I will also claim my patents to be unexpirable, retroactive and retropasive because time is not linear but simultaneous. :-D

Honestly, it would be much better to call this by its proper technical name (hemispherical recycling reflector or whatever), have it crafted in another country where they don't give a @#$% about the patent or just shut this @#$% up and have it done.

Patents are a hurdle for progress, and a big one.

Cheers :-)
