…and now some comparative pics at my usual 293-meter (921 feet) cellphone tower shot: (same Samsung 30Q’s used, transferred from one light to the other)

Deft X:

Interesting comparison. The MT35 has 1.2Mcd or so? The larger beam of the MT35 really helps one see the surrounding area out there.

I have just added my previous MT35 shot (not the Plus) taken from this thread (Old vs New: MT35, Courui DO1 and Maxtoch SN6X-2Xvn) to the side-by-side shots.

Ah ok, I was not familiar with the names of those lights. It looks like the MT35 is the ~85mm head with ~500Kcd, and the plus model is the 120mm head with ~1200Kcd?

Correct.

Wow. Mt35 plus or mf04 is amazing.

Yeah, I am actually surprised myself of the result tonight. Previously the Deft X (de-domed XPG-S2) aspheric used to be my King of the Hill since 5 years ago.

These new, large reflectored XHP35 lights has come a long way now, even just in its stock form.

These are locked exposure/aperture/iso shots? You just see too many unusable beamshot comparisons these days, that’s why I’m curious.

All photos taken using my OnePlus 5T phone, all in “Auto” mode (factory default setting in exposure/aperture/iso/wb, etc.) though it has a “Pro” mode, wherein I can adjust the those parameters.

I appreciate your effort, but you can’t use comparison shots without these parameters fixed. Brightness is all over the place between the shots. In a bad case a 100 lumen light can look brighter than a 1000 lumen light.

Correct, but these shots are not so far off in exposure, if you look at the illumination down the road that is not affected by the beams, it looks fairly the same over both pictures.

Edit: I was typing the post below before the post above of member djozz.

I understand what you mean, as I have a been an amateur photographer during the manual, film days, and I am aware that a 100 lumen light can be manipulated “manually” by tweaking the parameters to favor one over the other.

However, when I used the default mode during those beamshot photos, I always compare what I see in the screen of my phone compared to what I see outside the screen and I assure you, they are basically similar as nothing is exaggerated nor subtracted substantially from each other.

Take note at the ‘brightness’ of the houses far on the foreground on each shot and they are basically the same, meaning the default setting did not compensate for the bright spill of the MT35Plus compared to that of the Deft X. Only the spill of the MTPlus made the houses nearer to the camera brighter.

And I should emphasize that the beamshot of the Deft X looks like this because it’s nighttime, and an aspheric light has NO spill.

Correct, this is what I am trying to drive at.

djozz, you know what you are talking about. For that, :+1: and
