EDC flashlight picks.

I am looking for a new EDC flashlight. I currently carry a streamlight Protac 2L, but I want something with a little more brightness, but want the same tight hot spot same size or near it, and white color temp.

I have a BLF A6 1A on order from Banggood, supposed to be here next week. I don’t know if it will have the tight hot spot I like or not. I bought it without doing my research first. The Streamlight I currently carry has a very deep smooth reflector for it’s small size, I haven’t seen anything else out there with such a deep reflector in it’s size category, so I thought I would come here and ask the experts for a little help. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am new to the custom makers and non-mainstream brands and I am excited to learn all about them and hope to learn tons of new knowledge about everything out there.

First thing that comes to mind is the NiteCore P12GT or MH12GT. Same form factor and throws certainly more than your Protac.

Over the course of your typical day, what do you generally use your flashlight for?

Are you a city slicker, looking for your something in the back of your car, or are you Farmer John, looking for Mr. Ed, out in the field?

I personally like lipstick sized lights using IMR 16340s and don’t mind their limited runtime and throw during the course of my typical day.

I had plenty ecd flashlights, this one is a keeper. I know, not cheap, but beam, colour, homogenous tint, UI is just brilliant.

During the day I use it for various lighting tasks in dark warehouses and rooms, and sometimes to look under/into vehicles. At night I use it for out in the woods walking, or out in the pasture looking for coyotes and doing perimeter checks along my property of 40 acres. I also carry a Streamlight HL3 for long distances when I am in the pasture area, but I was just trying to see if there was something in the small form factor of the PT 2L that had more output and still a tight beam that would fit the bill. I have seen all of the Convoy S2 mods and versions, but I just don’t know. All these new brands and models I have never heard of kind of got me a little overwhelmed. Guess I just need to do my research and try and figure out what LED, reflector, power source and all components I need to make up the light for me and then start my search from there.

The MH12GT and P12GT have the most throw for a light that size.
I would recommend the MH since it has built in USB charging.

Have you compared a Fenix PD35 Tac to the P12GT? Are they about the same or one better than the other?

The PD35 has a lot worse throw.

Sofirn Sp 32A is small and 1500 lumens. Better version soon.

Eagletac also has a few models with similar form and a xpl HI emitter option. They are also good quality.

Sofirn is coming out with a better version of the sp32a? Is there any documentation or news leaks about the specs anywhere? I wish the current version had a tail switch.

There’s already a version with a tailswitch: The SP31.

The SP32 is the version without a tailswitch.

Lumintop SD Mini has a fairly nice hot spot with a bit of spill. Nice white light. Rechargeable. Battery included. Less than $40.

Amazon has it on sale right now for $39.99 Only 3 left.

Or maybe a Sofirn C8A if the size is okay for you. 1700+ lumens of throwing wonderfulness. With a nice hotspot. Not super tight but not huge either. The C8T will have a tighter hotspot with a bit less output that you won’t really notice. Less than $25 for either one with a battery and charger included.

Or just go for the C8M and giggle yourself silly at the 2500 lemons coming out of a C8-frame.

To this day…still have my BLF A6 in my left front pocket with my pocket knife and $7 cheap Chinese folding pliers, so much so that the knurling has turned gray…

Put an XP-L HI in the A6, then try a smooth reflector with it.

blf a6 is fairly floody but I LIKE THAT!

My EDC is needed for mostly closeup indoor tasks— like
Illuminating floors under kitchen equipment to check cleanliness, and such— so
mostly floody works well for me.
Acebeam M10 with 14500 serves me well for pocketably small, and 600 lumen bright.

What you want is the On the Road U18:

Really a great light. Build quality is great, threads are well lubed, it comes in a 4000k color temperature, has a great UI, straight shortcut to turbo, a magnetic tailcap, and can charge via micro-USB. Good knurling too.

And comes with a great pouch and an 18650. Best range of accessories I got from a single 18650 light ever, especially for 21$ with a coupon, now 25$.

Here is the pic I took of it when I received it earlier today with all of the accessories.
