Re: Mountain Electronics?

I’ve ordered from him too, all the way from the other side of the ‘small lake’

The little communication I had with him was just normally good.

True. But orders go hand in hand with good communications with any type of business. The lack of any type of communication is waht is issue here. Not the legitimacy of business. I do appreciate all the feedback though.

Excellent store with great products, only the real thing here.
Not cheap regarding shipping charges to The Netherlands but very reliable.

Never had to use the contact form re complaints of questions……

I get the communications thing, but this is a small operation that offers a lot of specialty items that are otherwise difficult to find or would need custom work. I’ve personally had nothing but fantastic experiences with MTE, everything has arrived on time, as ordered, and functions as stated.

Maybe this has already been said, but it’s worth noting just as explanation.

Richard is (Mtnelectronics), his wife though does much of the order filling, shipping, and answering questions about product stock and so-on. Those type of emails are usually responded to very quickly. Anything technical has to be referred to Richard himself, who is often busy with building the custom orders, or whatever else life has thrown at him recently.

It’s not an excuse for a business, I happen to agree that it sucks to wait so long for an answer, but we’ve come to understand and expect it here.

If you do have a technical question, I suggest asking it either in the Mtnelectronics thread, the “What did you mod today thread” or perhaps elsewhere. You will likely get a quick answer from others that are happy to help.

FWIW, Richard got his law degree a couple of years ago. No longer a student and hasn’t been for quite some time.

I actually consider Richard a friend of mine, we speak on the phone and through personal emails as well as through BLF, gotta admit though, sometimes he just doesn’t get to the emails… probably a technical reason but it is what it is.

From my experience Richard has been very responsive. However, I think he doesn’t check/respond emails on the weekend, which is understandable. I bought multiple times from MTN and it is one of the most reliable sources for flashlight enthusiasts. One time, Richard noticed his system overcalculated shipping cost for my order and he decided to refund me part of the shipping without me even asking him. I was surprised at his honesty.

I have placed several orders over the past 2.5 years. Never a problem & orders are always shipped promptly. :+1: . :+1:

I’ve considered ordering from ME, but the details in the checkout area (at least for international) have made me order elsewhere (such as from Illumn). Basically, if the package is lost, you have to eat the cost. To me, this doesn’t seem like normal business practice, and definitely not the norm when using Paypal.

If I order something (and pay for shipping), I expect a tracking number along with a guarantee that I will get the package. If it isn’t delivered, I should get a refund or it should be re-shipped. I’ve never had a problem with lost parcels from the US, but I don’t want to eat the cost if something goes wrong.

Shipping from countries outside the US there are multiple options that provide tracking. Here in the US we don’t have that, it’s pretty much the USPS or the more expensive UPS or FED EX. DHL is ridiculously expensive going out of the US, like $100 straight up and more if the package is large. Seriously. So we are limited in how we can send something Internationally and the USPS doesn’t cover expense on a package lost outside of our borders. It is what it is.

Richard started his business to help people in the US get our normal products without the long wait from China. So he bulk orders from Hank or wherever, even Simon, and then we get the product without the wait at very little over-cost.

He never intended to be shipping around the world, his suppliers do that where he can’t.

This.

Mountain Electronics is a rock-solid vendor. I’ve purchased dozens of orders from him over the last few years and all arrived promptly and the products work as described. Absolute first-class seller. The best place on the net to get specialty items like drivers short of hiring someone to custom-make one for you.

That said, even though all the products work great and they ship fast, sometimes the communication isn’t the best. If you have a technical question, you’re probably better off coming to BLF and posting your question here. Chances are high someone here can answer your question immediately.

When I buy stuff from Illumn, it comes via USPS (which is the only way to go when ordering from the US, to avoid exorbitant brokerage fees). They don’t make you sign any waver that makes you pay for lost parcels. I can’t think of any other US retailer I’ve ordered from that explicitly doesn’t guarantee delivery.

Even crap I buy from China, which has free shipping, generally comes with a delivery guarantee or you get a refund. (Though, some may push back enough that you have to go through Paypal. But I’ve never had to do that.)

I understand that ME doesn’t want to pay for lost packages, but neither do I.

Yesterday morning before 07:00, I messaged RMM thru his website. He replied back to me at around 15:00.

Today I placed an order around 09:00. It's now 11:45 and I have received an email from them with tracking number saying my order has been shipped.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Need to trust the guys in here…if the MTE is solid, then its solid.

I have lots of experience with big companies and sometimes its just impossible to get an answer. They have so tight email boxes, with all that corporate anti-spam blockers etc…i think if i send a letter from personal email, the person even doesnt see it and it automatically will go to spam.
Then you pick up the phone and call…explane, get your email answered and next time there should not be a problem with email getting lost.
Can not always count on just writing a letter… Otherwise many big companies would have lot less business.

Absolutely excellent vendor with great pricing. I have had many flawless transactions with them as well as good warranty support for the only one light of many I have purchased from them that gave me trouble.

Consider yourself extremely lucky guy. I was looking to spend a good chunk of change and Mtn Elect. ignored my questions about product information, etc…. I guess my money is not good for Mtn Elec. No worries, I might have to take my business elsewhere.

On related note. Black Scout Survival is very lousy with replies as well. No wonder why Thrunite pulled plug on the Wowtac Series.

Well if that’s the way you feel. Your loss.

Mountain Electronics is literally the best place on the web to buy a lot of flashlight related components. If you feel you don’t want to give them a shot due to lack of communication. No problem.
Shop for your components elsewhere.

Also, you DO have an avenue to get info. Many people on THIS forum have purchased hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of products from Mountain Electronics. Since your question is about “product information”, chances are VERY high that we on this forum would be able to answer any question about their products you might have. I have suggested that you would probably get good answers to all your questions if you post a thread here with your questions. You have decided not to do so. Your loss.

Sorry bud, I just don't see it that way. I am in no way special or extremely lucky.

I do however consider this entire forum to be extremely lucky to have had RMM around all these years. He has always been as helpful as humanly possible and has played a good role in bringing this hobby to where it is today.

If you have any questions about anything to do with the technical aspects of flashlights this is THE best and quickest place to get the information.
