Imalent DX80 Gen2 - QC Issues?

There it is right there ......... and $216 with code price for my DX80, that is why it is even hard to complain about anything. Where can you get a light with that kind of output anywhere near that price.

So, what you really mean to say is, because you can get it cheaper you tolerate inferior products. GB knows this

To a certain degree, if it is minimal like mine, but otherwise not really.

Anyone else owning the DX80 experienced the light smoking followed by a strong chemical stench?

Owned the dx80 for 6 months with no issues, rarely used in mint condition.
Batteries are never drained till flat.

Today i turned in on and it was fine until turbo, the light smoked followed by a pungent smell.

Anyone else experience this issue?

How long is imalent’s warranty?

lol… well my light isn’t smoking… but yes as far as the chemical smell…. you have to know that if you leave the light hanging around the house / apartment wherever you live… dust gets into it.

If you put the light in turbo any dust particles in the light will burn and that’s where the smell comes from on mine… almost like a smoke smell lol……

. great customer service… fast shipping… lol… is your light still working?

I dont think its dust, i keep my lights in a glass cabinet.

And i its the head assembly, the battery contact solder has melted.

Been emailing Imalent.

According to the this is the right was to turn the DX80 on.

“DX80 is extremely high output flashlight, so the current is also very high. If the flashlight is on, you screw it on and off without press the switch, it will be much easier to burn. Also when the light is not connected well, you try to turn it on, it also easily to burn.”

! Some images of the short circuit aftermath.

Contact are slightly charred.

Battery contact’s solder melted.

Anyone else experienced this issue?

Ahh! Too much current passed through that spring.

Bypass it with 18AWG wire if you can.

Hey, everyone. New to the forum - mainly because I have a DX80 issue!
I bought mine from GB about 6 months ago - everything has been fine until last night when it just conked out. I assumed that it just needed to be charged - but no luck.
Tested the base with MM and got the right response from the batteries - which has led me to believe there was a short circuit somewhere in top half.
(There is absolutely no response whatsoever- no OLED, no nothing.)
When I hold a non-contact circuit tester to the separated battery half, I get tone. When I screw the head onto the base, tone disappears. Also when I hold curcuit tester to the charging cable, I get a tone- but when I plug it into the Flashlight, the tone disappears.
Any advice?
…and at the very least, does anyone in the U.S. service these?
Thanks!

Yes great customer and very fast shipping Still working but sold it. I like my Q8 much better. The dx80 wall of light was really fun in the beginning but it finally wore off and I don't regret selling it. What I do regret selling is my second Q8. Should have held on to that one.

Experienced the same issue with the head, email to GB or imalent

Thanks.
I am emailing with Imalent now. They just said “it is hard to know when our engineer doesn’t have it.”
I am wondering if I should just suggest I send back the head for repair. (Or should I suggest they replace it?)

Might be the cheapest option. If you end up buying a new head from Imalent, they charge around $120 USD including shipping.

That isn’t too bad. (And waaaay cheaper than sending back the whole flashlight).
After reading the posts here - I don’t think my amateur sleuthing leading me to believe the issue is in the head is incorrect.
I think it is a pretty good $120 gamble to believe that is the issue based on my observations.
Appreciate it. :+1:

I was almost pulling trigger on this DX80 just now. This contact problem seems to be real for very high current flashlight. Hope Imalent can fix this permanently with more robust design on mechanical contacts.

she didn’t know she has to double click?

UPDATE:
I took your advice and paid the $120 for a replacement head after emailing with Shellen at IMALENT.
Got here in 3 days! And, BINGO! The DX80 is workibg again!
Thanks for the advice @klrman! :+1:
(By the way - was the defective head an DX80 MK1 issue that was solved after I had purchased mine? I have seen that others had this issue as well)
Thanks again!

Glad you got it C.C. As far as defective head, someone may know more, but from my understanding it is affecting newer and older versions but more so the older versions if I remember well. I still feel Imalent should have sent everyone a head free of charge as they know there were a lot of faulty ones, but looks like that is not their policy.

Not good, hope the manufacturer will improve
