PlayStation 3 advice needed

I ordered two USB extension cords from Monoprice.

I don't play games online, so I don't need a mic.

If I like the PS3 controller more than my PS4 controllers, I'll probably get another one and a charging stand.

sweet, the extensions i have are still running strong and monoprice is amazing for cheap good quality various cords and cables. i have them running from the usb ports on the back of my pc to my desk and they show no signs of fraying or a loose connector. i also bought one of their cheap 50 ft. ethernet cable to run under the house to my bedroom since the house wasnt wired with ethenet ports and its been great for over 5 years now.

Send it back! https://rpcs3.net if you have a good video card you can upscale the game and make it look way better.

I have a fat modded PS3 that has no working bluray drive lol. The PS3 controllers are not better but they last days instead of hours. Much preferable. Or if you can mod it: http://www.rivalgamer.com/threads/using-ps4-xbox360-xboxone-gamepad-on-ps3-using-ps3xpad-plugin.5625/ Use a real controller like a xbone. Or just use your PS4 ones.

I think the xbone controllers are the best, but since you already have PS4 ones why not use those?

I tried to emulate Disgaea 3 and Persona 5 on a gaming laptop (Asus G75VW) and the games were unplayable.

EDIT: (Low frame rate and stuttering audio)

EDIT: My video card is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M.

I guess my video card isn't that great.

PS3 doesn’t support TRIM anyway, so once it has filled every blank spot at least once, it will be no better than a good HDD for speed, and still a lot smaller too.

@raccoon city, dont worry about your framerate at all.

RPCS3 is still in its infancy, and there is a LOT of optimizations needs to be done.

Also, emulation does not require that strong of a GPU, but a very powerful CPU.

Laptop is your problem. Did you see the other links I sent? Maybe its your CPU. Use a good controller, not that the PS3 ones are any bad.

My laptop's CPU is an i7-3630QM, which was considered fairly quick five years ago when I bought the laptop.

Maybe the emulator got better since, I am not sure. I did not emulate much, I just did it for the wii/gc and dreamcast

since you know about modding maybe you can get a desktop or spend a bit more to make one that can emulate well.

According to this website,

"As of June 2018, RPCS3 has been able to play more than 33% of the PS3 library from start to finish. The emulator is capable of running around 980 games at a playable speed with no major glitches, though it requires very demanding hardware on most games."

I do have a desktop, but my laptop is more powerful, and I don't feel like spending a lot of money on a new desktop that will play some PS3 games.

A real PS3 is cheaper and plays more games.

You wouldn't get it just for PS3. I never found the PS3 library very exciting. Strange that disgaea didn't load for you. Disgaea 5 runs on switch emulator already... https://www.dsogaming.com/news/ryujinx-the-best-nintendo-switch-emulator-can-now-run-disgaea-5-and-axiom-verge/

I played 1 and 2 on my PSP as a CSO. ;)

I'm more of a fan of the PS2 and dreamcast myself. What were you going to play on the PS3?

I was going to start with Disgaea 3 and Persona 5, though I am getting some more highly rated games.

I like RPG's, especially JRPG's.

Yeah but the point for using an emulator is one can avoid the cost of purchasing games. :money_mouth_face:

I remember those good ole PS2 era when I installed a modchip and then I could play a ton of pirated ps2 games and play dvds without those dreadful region lock.
Never needed a HDD to play games because consoles were purely consoles back then and not a pseudo PC.

My PS2 is chipped, and has a hard drive, though it doesn't work very well any more.

By the way, I won't be paying for any PS3 games.

Why did you install a hard drive? play too much FF games?

I installed PS2 games to the hard drive.

By the way, my PS2 won't read discs anymore.

Mine also failed to read discs. My PS3 still has a PS2 inside since it the fat one. Did you see the mod I mentioned with the controllers though? Saves a lot of money. :)

I believe that if your PS3 has the right firmware, PS4 controllers will work with it without the mod you mentioned.

I think I'll stick to PS3 or PS4 controllers for now.

My PS2 still reads discs but the GPU is kinda fried, So I gave away my entire collection of games to my friends. Lots of good games, the type they don’t make anymore.

The PS2 has more great JRPG's than PS3 or PS4.

And I played most of them.
