Ran across the C8+ and couldn’t resist. Oak Brown in color, hmmmm, oooook. Thought I’d see how GearBest is doing shipping things these days. Wink

Thanks J-Dub74, will be interested to hear about wether its coated copper. I think someone also asked if it was raw copper or an alloy, do you know this?

More in line with thread topic, what’s your opinion on Convoy supplying cerakote or similar style coatings in the future? Based on your experience would there be any demand for this?

In my own EDC experience, the hands on part of actually using a copper light keeps the tarnish at bay. Even if you WANT that rich dark patina, handling it keeps that worn off for the most part. The green that some people seem to want can only grow on copper that’s left solely alone, handling it of course means it won’t happen unless there are crevices that don’t get touched in daily handling.

I got a light to repair lately that was taken swimming in the ocean. Solid copper, brass fittings inside. The salt water corroded the copper at the silicone boot and cause a leak into the switch area, everything inside the tail cap was NASTY!

So, while copper conducts electricty and is thermally excellent, it’s also soft and gets scarred up and has some issues with exposure in extreme instances. I wouldn’t recommend a solid copper light for extreme work environments, enthusiasts might like the solid copper for it’s ability to handle and extreme driver/emitter set-up, there’s just going to be some extra care needed to keep the light in good condition.

Sounds good, so if made of raw copper the solution is simply to handle it often or take to it with a cloth every now and then to stop the tarnish building up. I do prefer it shiny Crown

I’ve actually cleaned a copper light up pretty nice sitting at a restaurant waiting for my meal… used the slice of lemon they put in my tea.

Any coating will wear off, some quicker than others, but it usually looks pretty bad as the coating chips and peels off and leaves the light in a calico pattern of shiny and patina’d. There are products that are supposed to leave a protective film, but I haven’t found one that actually works in this instance. Well, I used Renaissance Wax on my Solarforce M8 pill that Bucket made for me and it’s still shiny sitting on the shelf, that’s been a few years ago now. Never use the light. Supposedly it’s a Museum quality restoration wax that was developed for priceless antiques so…

Hey guys, looks like Simon has officially listed these colors on the Convoy store.

Violet

Orange

Cyan

Note that these only come with the XM-L2 and the old 3/5 mode firmware by default. If you want the XP-L HI and Biscotti, start a purchase but stop when you get to a spot that lets you add a note to your order. Use that to request Biscotti and the emitter of your choice. Don’t submit payment until Simon updates the price to reflect your modifications.

Sweet!

I think I’m going to take my time on these. I have too many tube lights already. I’m going to have to give away a few first Smile

Thanks, just ordered the cyan & violet - and requested Biscotti firmware (which Simon has always given me for free in the past).

So pretty.

If anyone’s looking for the violet, orange or cyan S2+ in the Biscotti / XPL-HI / AR glass / smooth reflector configuration, Simon has listed them as a standard version:

Violet
Orange
Cyan

Wow the purple and orange looks great! I especially like the orange as it looks nearly identical to my copper S2+ host. I wonder why they don’t sell host only versions.

A little birdie told me the hosts would eventually be available, but I also suspect Simon will sell you a host if you send him a message.

I just realized none of the images or descriptions for the new colors mention a clip – are clips not included with these lights like they are with the other colors?

Has anyone asked when the shorty 18350 tubes will be available?

I just received my purple and orange S2+ host. They look even better than in the pictures. I was afraid the colorful ones would look cheap but it actually looks very nice premium feel. The orange looks even much better than the copper convoy S2+. I’m guessing that’s why I read Simon wasn’t very happy with his first batch of copper hosts. I still like the copper though for the heat sinking performance.

I messaged Simon through his store— he said the 18350 tubes are in progress.
Dunno the actual timeframe.

I’d love to see some photos of the orange lights that people have received while I wait for the blimp to make it to Canada with mine!

Did someone say S2+ army? I don’t know about that, but I’ve probably got at least a brigade here…

…and here’s one more photo of the new orange, compared next to a bright orange S2+, one that’s been custom powdercoated, and a shot of the new orange and purple together. My Cyan hasn’t arrived yet.

Based on how people are describing the orange S2+, I’m glad I didn’t went trough with my offer to by the prototype (mainly because it have a rubber tailcap instead of the metal button) and purchased a listed one instead. Will be my first S2+ with a metal button, so let’s see how I like it. It’s not like I have to add something orange to make it pop (like all my other S2+s)

Now that’s a rainbow…with some interesting differences.

Aside from only the clear and desert sand having the clip groove in the head,

-the two new colors are clearly a bit taller than the rest, perhaps due to resting on the knotted portion of the wood?
-the tailcap for the metal switch is slightly taller than the soft version, which is most apparent in the knurled section
-the switches on the orange/purple and the clear sit proud of the switch body, perhaps due to newness and being a drawer queen, respectively? Maybe even the sand as well.

My favorite is the copper. It’s gorgeous.
