*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

Thank you DBSAR for the Video and the informations!
And your Canadian accent is ok. I understand the most of all  :+1:

Where did the Q8 diffuser come from DB? And does it fit over the tube, so that stored with the Q8 it doesn’t take up much more space? Sorry this is a bit off topic.

Thank you for the detailed video! This project is by far the most interesting I have seen on BLF. This light will truly be better than 99.9% of the lanterns on the market.

I have some questions:

  1. Will the bolt that connects the head to the body be made of stainless steel?
  2. Is it possible to make the LEDs in the switch darker? It would be perfect if they dimmed down together with the light.

I know I’m not DBSAR of course, but I can answer the questions.

- It could be made of stainless steel, but using aluminium would be much better in terms of weight and cost. So it is probably going to be aluminium in the production units.

- Yes it is possible. You just need to swap out the LEDs for ones that have less scotopic light content, meaning less blue, meaning orange LEDs will probably be used.
You can also use higher value resistors to make the LEDs dimmer.

You don’t see aluminum bolts very often because they are very prone to necking . I would rather see steel or stainless used for this component, but cost is obviously a very important factor. That decision will be up to DBSAR and the manufacturer at the end of the day.

That ‘diffuser’ sure is a perfect fit on the Q8!

I think it’s the outer shell of an ‘LED flame effect’ light bulb.

DBSAR mentions it in this post and provides an Amazon link.

Thanx Goshdogit, unfortunately not worth buying one at that price just to dismantle.

The firmware changes the switch brightness on a 3-step scale — off, low, high. This is done in sync with the main emitter brightness. It can also be configured for one of four modes while the main emitters are off — off, low, high, or beacon.

In the video, the switch is only shown in high mode or off.

I think the lantern is supposed to have a warmer color of LEDs under the button too.

Hi DBSAR, Thanks to you and everyone else for all the hard work. The lantern looks great! The video was also very useful and informative. I look forward to seeing further developments.

As Goshdogit mentioned it is from a flame-bulb i got for amazon. it fits perfect for the Q8, and the battery end of the Q8 does fit inside it for more compact storage.

got it here: Amazon.ca

If it don’t increase costs to high it can be made from stainless steel (preferred) or even brass. Either would be good to avoid corrosion over time.

* Currently trying to upload the PART-2 of the BLF Lantenr video, but the slow wifi i am using at my location while on my east coast trip is really, really slow… its crashing constantly. I hope to get it on my youtube by tomorrow or this weekend.

Please sign me up for two. It’s looking great.

Thanks!

It makes a lot of sense to me.

added zcbtjwj for two more lanterns, interest list numbers 897 and 898. You also asked for two Christmas 2017 and those two are interest numbers 461 and 462.

Please confirm you are interested in 4 total lanterns.

Part-2” of the video is online!

Thanks for the videos! Great stuff

Looks awesome!

Interested in one.

Nice and informative videos!

What are the next steps now?
Is Lumintop confirmed to be the manufacturer?

Count me in for one.

Have you thought about an optional canopy for table use?
