I’ve grown quite fond of the UC15. Yes, it’s a little too big to be a keychain light, but gets high marks for power and versatility. The lack of a built in battery is supposed add to the flexibility of choices between 10400, AA and using one instead of two batteries. Still at the highest setting, i get about a half hour of power. (Short of an overnight hike, that should be plenty of power.
You can generally find it priced, with 10400 batteries, at about 50 bucks. Although more potent than the TIP, the TIP gets high marks for the reasonable price, plus the choice of emitter. The all around winner is the Astrolux K1, whose only real fault is that it gets very hot, very quickly.
being a devout Flashaholic, I had to have the UC15, a true pocket rocket. It has some of the brightest red available I think. Fun little offering. I got a blue one.
I use the UC15 on my Subaru keys, a Lumintop Geek on my VW Touran keys and an 18350 Emisar D4 on my house keys.
I like all 3 immensely tbh but no lockout on the UC15v1 sucks, forgetting to lockout the D4 sucks and if you don’t use the Geek for a while it takes a week to remember the UI.
guessing KG got the same revision I did, the earlier one with less modes and no lockout. They really changed the versions quickly as I purchased mine right after it first came out.
I got an Astrolux AO1 on my keychain. 105ish lum.
Fits nicely LOOKS Great. $7.80 USD.
They even do it in copper if you can find one.
Also my Jetbeam Jet1 MK. 450 lumins. $14 ish USD. (82x18mm round)
Both nicer looking with enuff realistic power.
and 3 or 4 for the price of one.
Mine got here today from that cheap amazon deal a few days ago, but I dont think its working correctly, I cant acces red or uv mode, there is no lockout either, been trying nimh, and cant seem to find out anywhere how to get into red/uv mode,
manual says hold from off 2 seconds, but nothing happens, when I eventually let go of button main emitter comes on
the earlier version, like mine , doesn’t have lockout. It only has 3 modes as well. One click to turn light on. While on, hold switch down until red light comes on and then release. While red is on, hold switch down until UV comes on, then release. While light is on in white mode, double click switch to go to next brightness level.
Thanks for responding guys, yeah I have tried everything, but can’t get uv/red mode to turn on. I only have alks and nimh in this size, but I’m pretty sure it’s defective. It’s too bad tho, amazon has no more stock so I can’t get a replacement, just a refund.
Finally had a chance to test mine out today and it works as advertised, has lockout, etc…
Got it mainly due to the $20 deal, but am also stoked to have the UV light. Had some fun dazzling the kids with their first blacklight experience. Hope it holds up for me.
I’ve looked at the Convoy UV, but never felt like I’d use it enough to justify the purchase. For the price I paid on the UC15, the UV is almost like a free bonus. I think it works well for what it is, on 10440’s anyway. I don’t doubt there are better options for the UV enthusiasts out there, but I like it.
I think the joke on this light is the red emitter, it’s far too bright for my taste, doubt I’ll ever use it.
