That’s an XM-L based C8, right? The difference is still impressive, but it needs to be pointed out that a modern XP-L HI C8 would outperform the C8 in the photo by a decent margin.
I just added the distances to the candela ratings. The C8 got 395 meters, the Mini got 769 meters. That’s almost double the distance! It’s like a C8 on steriods. Lol
I’m sure there wouldn’t be such a huge difference if you had an Astrolux C8 with FET driver and xpl-hi. Mine is a regular Convoy C8 with 8 x 7135 = 2.8A with dome-on xml2 U2-1A and Guppydrv.
Yeah I'm sold, it looks like a real solid light. I probably asked this before and forgot, but do you know if it has enough room to run the protected 18650's? I have many of those around.
Yes, protected seem to fit fine. I have a 69mm Keeppower 8A protected Sanyo GA 3500 and a 69.5mm Evva 7A protected Panny B 3400.
The tail springs can collapse down really far so that shouldn’t be an issue.
The thing you should be aware of is the amp draw on your protected cells. If their protection circuitry is only 3 amp then you may not be able to run the GT mini on Turbo.
I measured my Evva at 4.1v and got 2.2A top of ramp and 4A on turbo.
My KeepPower at 4.1v got 2.2A top of ramp and 4.3A on turbo.
Thanks, I have the protected Keeppower GA's as well so all is good. Have many protected NC18650B's but I think they trip at 4.75A or close to that which might be pushing it for this light.
Guys, do you think I would gain more lumens by replacing the double springs with my BeCu springs, or would the forward voltage of the LED be too high for any meaningful gain?
It’s the single driver spring that would most benefit.
It looks like the xpl can survive up to 8 or 9 amps before burning out. I’m getting 5.5A stock. I don’t plan to mess with it, but if you bypassed or replaced the driver spring you might see 6A or more. Peak power for the xpl seems to be at 7A, but the heat is massive.
DB Custom stuck a killer Samsung 30T cell on his and got and extra 250 lumen so I would say there’s a bit more output left.
Those last two are pretty close. I wonder why the Mini beats your last one? It seems like a beast.
Maybe it’s the reflector? It’s slightly wider, 39mm to 33mm and about 9mm deeper. The mini has an AR lens, my C8 doesn’t. This might give it a definite advantage.
It is definitely the reflector diameter that counts. But the last two has AR coated lens. Forgot to mention.
My Emisar D1S with XP-L HI has 124.1 kcd and 704m stock
but with the same dedomed SST40 what was in the C8 I got 160.6 kcd and 801m
No, of course, I did not!
Do you think if I received an order, would I ask so many questions?
Martin sent me another’s track number, promised to send the present and is silent as a fish on the ice for three days already)))
