Sofirn SP70 Alone $50, PM for AMZ US CODE(LIMITED)

I actually prefer the rubber buttons as a rule since they can be made water resistant. Metal buttons are much harder to make resistant unless they are done like the MT09R

I believe that many of us are more demanding than just “form follows function” and the overall aesthetics play an important role. While the stepped design looks really high-end and gets my wallet ready, I would probably skip the cheapo “toilet-plunger” look.

EDIT: I mixed up form and function :person_facepalming:
If we were only after FUNCTION, why not to mill just a hole in a thick slab of aluminium for best heat transfer.

??? That last sentence of yours sure does contradict what you said above it Dioda. There is not much “form” in a “hole in a thick slab of aluminium”. No “form” at all really. And certainly not “more demanding”.

Form following function does not mean the external has to be ugly. It means it is designed internally & externally to provide the absolute best heat sinking & heat dissipation.

And it is perfectly fine if your opinion is a “toilet-plunger type head looks cheapo”. But that may or may not be the opinion of the majority. So maybe you will have to pass if it does not meet your criteria. I guess time will tell….

Because you need fins to create more surface area to exchange the heat.

But i feel with you, i prefer the S70 head look.

At first, i thought the X5/X6 style would be nice, but that looks don’t work on this light.

If you make deeper fins on the S70 style light, it would be a beast since it can be made with thick aluminium and much surface area which equals better cooling.

Nope, Im all in for the “stacked”, design 1 look. Maximum heat transfer is not everything. That plunger look is a no-no in my design book  Will see how it turns out in the end.

BTW guys, Sofirn are going to use gold plated beryllium copper springs to avoid having to bypass the springs in their lights.

This is getting more interesting every minute. Is there any rough estimate by when first prototypes are ready?

+1. Though I’d deepen the fins.
Visually, I like the simplicity. And I like how it should be very effective.

For maximum cooling the fins could be thinner and more of them added as well.

I would really like to see a cross section of the light.

Sound good but which one is less resistance between beryllium copper spring vs 22-20 AWG bypass.

Depends.

If they use a 1.1mm thick spring at 10mm height with BeCu C17500 45% IACS, it should be about as good as a 22AWG wire bypass, with a gold plating.

The rubber button cover will be translucent like on the Q8. This way you can see the leds under it.

They have told be the price they are aiming at. It is very good! But they may be waiting until more details are ironed out before they publicly announce it.

I’m gonna repost these pics on each page so I can find them easily. I hate having to hunt for stuff. Lol

.

All signs point to number 1 and 4 as the most favorite. It’s also what Sofirn prefers, so they will probably go with that. Sorry plunger. :stuck_out_tongue: (I was rooting for the plunger because I carry it by the head, never the battery tube. I just hope the stepped design does not hurt my hand or feel awkward)

I have not heard anything about when exactly. They are moving quite fast if you ask me. Some lights take a year or more to go from start to finish. Look at the Q8, GT and FW3A. So we just have to be patient.

I don’t have that, yet. I assume they will go with the stepped head 1 and 4 design. So maybe now they will focus more detail on how it needs to be machined, etc…

Man the stuff I come across on this website is awesome, I’d totally dig on one of these

1+ for SMO reflector.
And please make room for protected batteries as well so we have many options for different 26650 cells.

As said earlier, personally i prefer the Kronos K70 prototype head (without the lengthwise cutouts) or the S70 style head with plain straight finning and without crenelations.
The cleaner, the better.

After all this thread is based on the Kronos K70

It depends on the price, but for now i wouldn’t buy one.
I care about aesthetics

Yokiamy, have you got a picture of, or a link to; the Kronos K70 prototype head?

I can’t seem to locate it.

Thanks in advance…… :+1:

Yep, page 1 of the Kronos K70 thread (scroll down all names)

Thank you!!
That looks good. I really like that battery tube too……
