Perhaps. But your lights are an absolute monster. Even my springs won’t be able to handle 25A each.

I’d love to make a spring that can handle even higher power. 1.2mm wire diameter, 15mm height to account for 21700 support, Beryllium Copper C17510 60% IACS, etc.

That would be one heck of a spring, and even a wire bypass would be jealous. Could probably handle 25A+, unlike my 15A spring.

Uh, one spring at the top end of the series 21700 pair, so this driver spring is handling close to 50A here. I had to use a $25 Tofty switch which has a 1/4” brass screw for contact.

My first build will probably be in an Eagle Eye X6 to 4 Samsung LH351D’s, that should be more down these springs alley. I need to build up a driver, have the emitters on the new Noctigon 33mm Quad MCPCB so I’ll be ready when the springs arrive, hosts should be in hand by then as well. I don’t know what these new Samsungs can pull, 15A or so?

Edit: It won’t be that high, tested outside of a light direct drive to an LG HE4 fresh off the charger it pulled 11.38A to the 4 Samsungs, so the springs should easily deliver what they need.

Ooops. Thought you made a 2S2P light because you said you put 2x21700 in series, and thought you put 4 cells in total.

And they will probably pull 13-15A at that power level. So probably 4500+ lumens.

That light is 3 XHP-70.2, it makes 20,000 lumens. :wink:

I’m going to build a quad X6 and use these new springs, single 18650. Direct drive shows less than 12A so it’ll be all right.

Also, once I get components together, I plan to use 9 of these Samsung emitters in a 4P 18650 Sofirn SF34 (like an SRK) with a BLF Q8 driver, so I’ll use 4 of these large springs on the tail board and see how they do there. It’s making 5000+ lumens with XM-L emitters on an aluminum MCPCB and stock springs. :wink:

BSM when we can expect small springs? And shipping both at all?

When I’ll come back from vacation, I will order the small springs right away, and ship them as quickly as possible.

My springs just showed up today! They look good and are real heavy duty. The nicest springs I have used that is for sure.

I’d love to hear what are your thoughts on them by putting them in a real light, as springs behave differently when connected to a cell rather than a constant current load.

Yeah, I am not sure what light to put them in, I have a new to me MT09R here that I might try them in, although I think I would double up on that light with the small springs as well, so I might wait for them. Otherwise I don’t have any un-modded lights here to put them in lol. I have not ordered a flashlight in almost a year. Just the prototypes I have been sent during testing.

I have no qualms about modding modded lights, will have a spring party when mine arrive. :wink:

Is it worth the time to replace all the springs in my existing lights with these new springs? Including the bypassed springs that I have? Or should I just save them for new lights? I’m curious as to what people think and are planning to do with their springs.

It depends on what you want to do.

In my case the lights that are working properly will not gain anything with these springs since they already have bypasses, so there is simply no reason to pull them apart and swap them out.

Now going forward I will most likely swap these springs onto any new lights I built or during any repairs.

I tend to follow the if it ain’t broke and it will not gain anything, then don’t fix it mantra.

Yeah. Personally, I would only replace stock springs with bypasses if I either had two lights to compare light output between bypassed and high conductivity springs.

Or a light with a replaceable tailcap. Like the Q8.

However, I like these springs way better than any spring I’ve ever had my hands on. Not solely because they have very high conductivity for springs, but mostly because they are so easy to solder to compared to non copper alloy springs.

Trying to do bypasses on steel springs, is let’s just say, mind nerving and very annoying to do, since the chromium surface and steel itself form oxides and don’t adhere to tin well, if at all without flux.

Hmm, I was thinking and I have 2 MT09R’s here. So I could have a direct comparison between 5x bypasses vs 5x of these springs in the same light. If I have some time next week I will try to do that.

That would be great! I adhere to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy but that BLF modder in me can’t leave things alone if I know that the springs will yield me some more light (but I’m lazy enough that it has to be enough light to make it worthwhile).

I will take 30 small springs, let me know if you ever order more large springs.

Wouldn’t you need to use the same head and just swap the battery tubes? Two different heads could vary a lot.
