Thrunite Catapult V6 (mini thrower) // Full reveiw

Hi toobadorz.

Thanks for your testing.

When you say accumulated, do you mean that is the TOTAL time of turbo the battery can supply regardless of how many times you step back up to turbo?

How long of ACCUMULATED Turbo time can the PLB 55A with the CAT V6? I see you got 9 minutes for the TC20.

Hi Wolfdog,

Yes, the word “accumulated” means the runtime curves were measured by repeatedly cooling and then re-activating Turbo. I already posted my measurements for V6

~16.5 minutes. But since your V6 is driven harder than the stock version, this should be noticeably shorter.

^

Yes, I see the chart. So would that be 13 Minutes? Not quite 16 minutes.

Looks like 16:36 it dives and does not make it back to turbo.

One question. That is NOT totally dependant on the battery is it?

If a different driver was put in could the PLB-55A possibly sustain more turbo? I would think there would be enough voltage after 13 minutes to do this.

Just my guess as the guy who modded it is working on another driver.

,Thanks

Just received mine from joker145 in pristine condition. Thank you joker. With the stock battery the throw lives up to spec according to my meter (calibrated to known lights). The switch feels good and solid.

It does get a bit uncomfortable before the turbo/temp control kicks in but not so hot that you want to drop it. All in all a nice handheld shooter with great neutral white beam. It will be used primarily onboard the ship I currently work on by others so the usb charging makes it mostly idiot proof.

Kudos to Thrunite for making a nice compact 26650 thrower.

I have one as well, really love it , and it’s very compact for the power…Does anyone know if a protected Orbtronic 26650 will fit ??

The supplied Thrunite battery is 68.78 mm long if that helps. The Orbtronic site says 68.8 so I don’t see why not.

It might fit. It is ~2.8mm More than the 5750mAh Orbtronic cell that I am using. I would certainly go with that one. It has more capacity/More amps/Definitely fits and a few $’s cheaper.

The 5750mAh cell is 5mm from the top of the tube [see pic. below]

That would tell you that the protected Orbtronic 26650 [68.8mm] should fit but you have to take the compressed Negative “Tail cap” spring into account.

Swib and Wolfdog… thank you both !

Here is the supplied Thrunite battery. If Orbtronics measurement for the protected battery is correct, then it should indeed fit with some room to spare as you can see in the photo of the Thrunite battery which is basically the same size and obviously works in the light.

Swib gets credit for pointing out the supplied Thrunite battery.

I did measure the Thrunite battery [with a ruler!] and even though I was not using a micrometer, it indeed seems like it is ~68.9 mm.

I would still go w/ the Orbtronic 5750 20A[PLB-55A].

I agree about the Orbtronic 5750 20 PLB-55A. From toobadorz’s graph it seems to be a better choice. However it appears to be a non protected cell. Not sure if that is really important to you.

Yes,that would be a personal choice for him. When I started this hobby 90% or more of my cells were Protected. Now it is the opposite.

Unprotected cells, especially IMR and similar ones, are unprotected for a reason. they are safer and do not need protection. As long as we have common sense, do not drain them too far, have a DMM and know our run times w/ each torch, then the Unprotected high drains are certainly a better choice. I have not had one safety issue with them.

Nor have I had any issues with unprotected cells. In the lights that I make for others I just make sure to use a driver with LVP so they can’t over discharge the battery. I’m just about to push the button on flat top Orbtronics. Is that what you are using?

Yes.Will they ship to Canada at a reasonable price or are you getting them elsewhere? Shockli 5500 is also the same cell and so is the KP 6000mAh.

Thank you wolfdog1226. I will have them sent to my US shipping point. Less hassle, cheaper, and I’ll get them quicker.

Here is a beam shot of the Catvn V6 1988L/194Kcd

I cannot see it.

EDIT: I get a 404 error.

asks me to sign in to my Google account then shows an error

Ok,Thanks.

I do not seem to be able to get a video on here from my Google account. All my pics and videos from my phone go to Google photos. Then I copy/paste on here and I am the Only one able to view it.

Next time, upload to YouTube…

Thanks NL. I knew I needed to do that but kept trying w/ google photos!

I hope this works,CATvn V6 NW 5000K 1988L/194Kcd w/ average video on my camera!
