Fireflies ROT66 review (3x18650, 9x219B)

Can’t match your results even with a better environment for the convection to take place and without the initial turbo heat buildup.

At 26°C room temp on the 7x7135 mode the head heats up to
45°C at 15 min
46°C at 20 min
49°C at 25 min
50°C at 30 min
52°C at 35 min
53°C at 40 min

It will probably still be handholdable indefinitely taking into account the heat sinking from the hand. Especially outside. So that’s a great choice for the number of 7135 regulators in the 219B model by Fireflies.

Interesting. Sorry that I forgot to mention: I measured the max temperature around the side switch, not the SS bezel. This is because the hottest part I may touch is simply around the switch. I’ll confirm that again once mine is back.

Me too, you can’t measure the temperature from SS with an IR meter anyways. The laser pointer just offsets upwards since the meter is so close.

Yes. I was using an IR meter too.

The wait for mine to come in is excruciating! Thanks for measuring the effect the lens has on the color output. The 700 lumen mode looks super ideal to me for its ruler flat regulated output and amount of pink to its tint.

This thing will be the perfect hiking light.

Are the optics used in the ROT66 the same or very similar as the MF01? How does the lux vs angle graph compare between the two?

I haven’t measured the beam profile for the MF01. It has more even beam, while on the ROT66 the lux fades more gradually towards the wider spill. There’s more of a tunnel vision effect with the MF01, much like on an Olight with XM-L2 and optic.

Here’s a white balance and light level corrected comparison for the two.

Superb review and discussion here, thank you.

This animated GIF is quite mesmerizing…if you concentrate and keep focused on the centre of the spot it looks like blast waves every time it switches between MF01 and ROT66.

Thanks for the impressions! Is it as floody as an S41 when bout hare the same output? I found the S41 a little too floody for my tastes. Lower lumen outputs tend to lose some punch when there’s very little throw to them.

One more question, maukka :stuck_out_tongue:

Is that 126 lm level a built-in mode of your M43, or manually adjusted by its ramping feature in UI 3?

Manually adjusted to be close to the D4 and ROT66.

Got it, thanks!

Great review Maukka

About the Manual:

  • The tables have missing and mixed lines. Is that from the scan or there are lines on the paper?

That’s not a scan. It’s just a screenshot of a PDF I got from the manufacturer as my light didn’t come with a manual.

It seems like you were even more thorough than usual in this review. Really outstanding details.

I thought I’d mention something I noticed about the head dimensions:

Fireflies specs say “110mm x 47mmx45mm body”.

I assume the difference is simply that Fireflies stated the head size across the flats, and your measurement is presumably the diameter across the rounded corners.

Not a concern. I just thought it was worth mentioning so everyone understands how the manufacturer spec is measured.

Yes, my measurements are from the thickest part of the head.

Great review, thanks for another ton of work!

This light is certainly a must-have, but it is so much in between other flooder flashlights that I own in all of its aspects that it has no unique reason of existence in my collection, so I’m holding off buying it for now (I’m low on money as well, spent way too much on hobby lately) . Maybe later, because it looks so nice…

A Chinese billionaire ever said…when you see something attractive, simply buy it. The money is not really spent, it just accompanies you in another way.

What a nonsense.

Thanks for the review and wonderful photos. The lighting is beautiful on all of your product shots!

Regarding the flashlight, I have to agree with djozz. The 9080 LEDS really sets it apart, but on other aspects, I find the M43 to be a more compelling package with its refined aesthetics, boost driver, and mod friendly optics.

Then again, I have not experienced the 9080 219b in person so the above opinion is based on mere speculation as that could highly sway the attraction to this light.
I still want one though…

The stainless steel bezel and optional stainless steel tailcap is pretty refined! I’m not too big a fan of 4x18650 tubes myself— 2” is just slightly too big for what I’d consider ergonomic in the hand. 1.75” from 3x18650 tube though is much more manageable. I find 1.25” 1x26650 tube ideal size, but 1 26650 can’t power all these leds as well as 3x18650.
