Ok then. Thanks. These are some pics about the new battery tube and the info.
These have not been released obviously yet.
One thing I wonder about is if the regular Sofirn Q8 is going to use beryllium copper springs after they liked my idea, and asked me for some advice. Or maybe they are just going to use copper alloy springs in the Sofirn Q8 V1.5 battery carriers.
I have asked them about it, and am waiting for their response currently.
Last thing I heard is that one of their engineers by accident reversed one battery in an unprotected prototype of the Q8 carrier and that scared the h*ll out of him. That is when they decided on physical reverse polarity protection and thus it will not work with flat tops. But it may well be a very easy mod to remove that protection.
But, as I understood, the 2-carrier,8batteries,8P battery tube is not finished yet, they are not satisfied on details and are still working on it.
On further reflection, as much as the Q8 is a BLF classic. 4x18650 cells really are more battery than I want/need which is what has kept me from getting one up to now, it would just sit un-used.
I can’t seem to find the thread, but I remember someone else pointed out that another company used a white plastic ring around the contact point to allow button tops and flat tops.
Can you remove me from the list and allow someone else to purchase from Amazon US? Thanks.
Astrolux uses a really nice white plastic ring that is just tall enough to prevent the negative end of a cell from touching, but still allow the flat positive end to touch. I just mentioned this on a ROT66 thread. Getting these tolerances are hard, though. Sofirn may just suggest button tops in the carrier like the current Q8. If you don’t have button tops, solder blob them.
