LED Package/ Die Sizes - WIP -

4mm squared.
The die size is 2mm x 2mm.

CRX, could you add SST-40 to the first post?

Yeah I’ve been meaning to update this.

Using a picture from djozz:

Coupled with WebPlotDigitizer I calculate LH351D die size to be 2.166*2.166 mm or 4.69 mm².

ADDED:
Also, XHP35 HI was measured to be 5.32 mm² actually:

ADDED:
And Luxeon V is 6.43 mm²:

Thanks mate.

CRX, I was noticing some odd things concerning the xhp70, 70.2, 50 and 50.2 Die.mm2. or die area.

For instance, the 70.2 is just 4 x xml2 (I think) so the total surface area would be like in your old chart 15.68 mm^2. Why does you new chart show a much larger area of 31.52 mm^2?

I keep meaning to come back to this to update it, I think I copied those numbers are from koef in this post. LES not die size probably.
“The total light emitting surface (LES) area of the XHP70.2 is 31.52 mm² (0.0489 sq in) in size. The four single dies are 7.88 mm² (0.0122 sq in) each.”

Those numbers are probably with and without dome (half).

The xpl Hi, HD and xhp35 Hi, HD don’t show a huge difference.

The difference is basically the same for 99% of all standard LEDs. The dome doubles the apparent die size.

I believe the dome increases the apparent die size by about 50, not 100. Look at the examples I mentioned, there is no big increase at all, much less doubling.

Overall, you’re missing my point. The LES should not be on the chart. We want the actual die size like length times width. Perhaps another column can be made to show LES or the effects of the dome.

Noted :+1:

Nope, definitely 100% (lets say 80-120%). This has been measured by multiple people, see here for many examples.

But I get your point. I was thinking about the pictures. Sorry. The numbers in the chart are wrong for some of the larger Cree LEDs.

Corrected values welcome too…

Die area in mm^2:
XP-E2 Torch: 0.85 (basically the same as the normal XP-E2)
XHP-50: ?
XHP-50.2: 4x 2.06
XHP-70: ?
XHP-70.2: 4x 5.581 / 4x 3.55 (de-domed XP-L2, entire glowing surface or just the blue die underneath)

Koef3 didn’t dedome all of these LEDs. He only states the values with dome in some of his threads.

Osram oslon red SSL80 (the “SSL80” is part of the name, not binning info, they make other types of 3.1mmx3.1mm red emitters too so its important to include it in the name)

Package size 3.1x3.1mm
Diag. Max 4.38mm
Total height 2.35mm
Substrate 0.68mm
Dome Ø 2.15mm

If that’s not enough info for you to bother adding it to the chart I understand.

Bumping an old thread that deserves it IMO. Really should be a sticky

I’d love to see it continue to grow. Maybe turning it into a google doc could help?

Imo, you might need to remove the phosphors and expose the blue die underneath for accurate measurement.

Does anyone know the die size of Samsung LH351C?

Hey CRX, I think this is a great post you made. And I also think many would appritiate if you updated it with the 4 new Olson Flats and the sbt90.2 aswell. If you want me to look up the info to help, just let me know.
