@Toykeeper
You asked for a diffuser a time ago.
And there was a recommendation from the german Taschenlampen-Forum.
Did you get that one and does it fit?

The NFD25 is flat, designed to spread out the beam. So, not the right category of product.
The NDF25 is a cone, and it technically fits, but it’s not a good fit and not very useful as a diffuser cone either. It’s basically transparent, doesn’t emit light very evenly, and does weird things to the tint.
There’s also a stretchy silicone one, but it’s difficult to put on, it isn’t opaque enough, and it looks awkwardly like a stubby condom.
So I’m still looking for a diffuser cone which fits well and is opaque.
We already have the world’s best candle, the D4, D4S, or any other tail standing light that can run Anduril.
Well, true, if you can flash it into those lights!…
The FW3A will be the first light I will have with that FW installed, and as far as I perceived, it will be the first light with Anduril as stock FW, so it makes it different!
Besides that, the elegance of this flasglight makes it look better as a candle But that is just a preference
FWIW, a tail button is a bit of a drawback for candle use, because it means picking up the light to press the button. Otherwise though, the FW3A should work nicely as a candle.

I thought about what you’re saying and as long as it tailstands,I guess it wont be a big issue
Sometimes I use the Convoys to a similar function (bedside standing) and it works fine!
So, as long as the tail allows it to stand, it won’t bug me much!
Apologies, I’m sorry.

Also voted in both polls. This looks like it’s going to be a great light.
# Post I must apologise profusely, I asked for two of these in post number 1574, I completely forgot I’d already asked for one a few months earlier in post number 889.
Could I be a pain and just have two instead of three please? Again, I apologise. Got a bit overexcited possibly!

I guess they do. Still, with a diffuser, these will be equally great.
Just to clarify, those lights use RampingIOS or D4 ramping, so no candle mode.
They can be reflashed to use Anduril though, which will give them candle mode.
Accurate clarification, that is what I was trying to say. As far as the diffuser goes, same for the D4 and this light, you likely need to roll your own.
I have the D4 with Anduril, and it does make for a great candle, even without the diffuser.

Why is it a deal breaker for you? As long as the driver has LVP is there any point having protected cells? Or do you like the added protection of having it on the cell as well as the driver?
Just about all of my 18650 cells are protected, and the couple that are unprotected aren't all that great.
I guess I could invest in some quality unprotected cells, though I do not particularly want to.

Member for 8+ years and almost 11,000 posts…and no decent high drain unprotected cells?
My mind is blown!
…. That makes two of us….. I was thinking the same thing….
Wow – I don’t have ANY protected cells, and don’t want them either.
I don’t want issues with who made the circuit, how it performs, whether it will fit, metal strip running down the side – yuk.
I have a few Panny B’s for capacity and the rest are nearly all 30Q’s button or flat top, aside from a few laptop pulls, and some 14500/10440 of mixed breed.
Hitherto I bought mostly protected cells, as I got more knowledge about Li-ion cells, I will buy mostly unprotected. Think about Tesla, thousands of unprotected cells under your ass, still no spontaneously fire incidents.

Those are still protected, just through a BMS or battery management system. Still, there is the rare fire usually due to the battery pack being punctured. Way way more safer than gasoline, though. Even a protected 18650 can burn up if the protection circuit is in the negative end and the positive metal strap along the side gets scratched and causes a short in the battery tube.
I still use protected cells in headlamps and the lights that I give away, even if the light has lvp built in.

I’m hoping Fireflies updates future batches of the ROT66 to Anduril. If so, then FW3A would be the 2nd.
For the ultimate candle effect, instead of a slip-on diffuser, you’ll want to set it on a small fan, with orange and/or yellow tissue paper taped to the top to “flicker” in the breeze like this sort of gadget
You can add me to the list for 1
Unprotected only. The front and back half can’t screw together far enough to work when a protected cell is used.

Sorry

That’s what I thought to be honest. As long as the flashlight itself has LVP, surely it’s ok.
I just wanted to add to this, thank you very much Toykeeper!

I have some protected cell from when I first started with LiIon & was afraid I’d blow myself up.
. But since then I have gone mostly to unprotected.
