Wow - I don’t have ANY protected cells, and don’t want them either.
I don’t want issues with who made the circuit, how it performs, whether it will fit, metal strip running down the side - yuk.
I have a few Panny B’s for capacity and the rest are nearly all 30Q’s button or flat top, aside from a few laptop pulls, and some 14500/10440 of mixed breed.
Hitherto I bought mostly protected cells, as I got more knowledge about Li-ion cells, I will buy mostly unprotected. Think about Tesla, thousands of unprotected cells under your ass, still no spontaneously fire incidents.
Those are still protected, just through a BMS or battery management system. Still, there is the rare fire usually due to the battery pack being punctured. Way way more safer than gasoline, though. Even a protected 18650 can burn up if the protection circuit is in the negative end and the positive metal strap along the side gets scratched and causes a short in the battery tube.
I still use protected cells in headlamps and the lights that I give away, even if the light has lvp built in.
I’m hoping Fireflies updates future batches of the ROT66 to Anduril. If so, then FW3A would be the 2nd.
For the ultimate candle effect, instead of a slip-on diffuser, you’ll want to set it on a small fan, with orange and/or yellow tissue paper taped to the top to “flicker” in the breeze like this sort of gadget:

Yeah that’s the only real bummer with the light so far for me. Don’t see why that clip couldn’t extend up to the edge of the tail and still mount the same way.
