Emisar D1 Titanium??

Does anyone in the know, know if there are plans for a titanium version of the D1? The D1 is IMO by far the most useful of the Emisar line, and I would happily add several of the D1 in Titanium to my lineup if they were made.

The Ti D4 is a really sharp light, but is basically useless for any of my usage.

According to people that know more than me on Reddit, titanium lights over 1” are very rare since the bar stock is significantly more expensive.

On the D4, the largest part, the head, is already made out of copper. This serves two purposes. First, copper has much better thermal conductivity than titanium, so making the area subject to the most heat out of copper is beneficial to performance on a hotrod like the D4. Second, it keeps the cost manageable. As bmengineer mentioned, titanium stock large enough for the head of the D4 would be rather expensive. Thus, making the smaller diameter body out of titanium, and the large head out of copper, is much more cost effective.

Now, extending this to the D1, the heat issues are less of a concern. But the head of the D1 is even larger than the D4, and titanium stock of that size would be hilariously expensive. In theory, you could do the same thing as the D4, and make the head out of a different material. The new issue you run into is that copper is heavy, and making the entire head of the D1 out of copper would just about make it suitable for use as a boat anchor.

Fair points, might have to figure out how to modify a D4 into something useful.

I can’t buy 1” stock for what they charge for the D4 so I don’t have a good reference on their cost, but I have made lights out of larger stock and ended up around 2x the cost for 50% increase in diameter in titanium.

Makes sense. 1.5X the diameter = 2.25X the volume for a given length.
