I never modded mine till a few months ago and it was fine stock some had issues and others didn’t.
The issues where a metal anodized disc holds the LED in place but the anodizing was getting scraped of and causing issues. Easy fix just place some electrical tape over the led wires.
My one was fine i think it really depends on the solder job done if it had sharp joints. Other issue was some 26650 would short out between positive battery terminal and the ground in the battery tube same fix as above. Electrical tape or a plastic insulator or any none conductive material to separate the two.
Apparently these issues have been fixed.
I modded my Cometa with a dedomed XPG2 and it does over 300kcd.
Not sure about the details now, I remembered Banggood offered other products as replacement, but I rejected them. I waited because it was good deal, at the end had to give up and request refund.
The new updated BG page I put up today still has a few of the nasty reviews from 2016, also I found a link to YouTube for those who were asking about how to fix the issues, I’ve heard there were quit a few vids, I haven’t watched this one below yet.
One funny thing I noticed on this link to YT, Cometa vid for fixes was that down at the bottom under the vid in the comments is a message by the man who took the worst beating on this cloning of the Jaxman Z1, the message is from the owner of Jaxman himself Paul as I’ve always called him.

a low grade copy of our Jaxman Z1 flashlights.
Z1 is a oringinal product of Jaxman
Edit: Well crap, I’m just a messenger and this is a good deal if the lights are there with the known dangers and all, so please don’t anyone get mad at me if BG clowns you around, I’ve now put in two orders through PP and both have gone through and I haven’t heard anything yet about back orders or anything, YET… ?
I like how BangGood tries to bully us into buying the shipping insurance with a Pop Up after you cancel out the insurance that says something to the effect of “We will not compensate you if item is lost and you did not buy insurance”
Yeah, OK, bring it.
Will have to brush up on the fire safety rig as I passed this thing up back in the day of the group by and was glad after all the drama, but at $15 “parts is parts”
