ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Hopefully those will make their way to the Chinese market so we can get them for a decent price.
So far, all the Ti Sanrenmu have only been available to the Western market, using lower steels and have been therefore overpriced.
A Ti 910 with 14C28N at around $40 would be sweet… at least one can hope

For me whether this is good news or not depends on availability.

Most of the new(ish) Sanrenmu models which I am interested in - I simply can’t find them via the usual channels (Gearbest, Fasttech, Exduct etc).

I don’t want to buy from an expensive German store because the price includes VAT, sometimes shipping can be €10 per item…

For example Land 910 Ti is like €80 shipped from Germany. It’s nice but not that nice. Its not like 5x nicer than my €15 9103 from GB. Pretty sure the blade and much of the hardware are identical!

This is the downside of Sanrenmu trying to make their brand more upmarket. It seems they are not willing to provide knives to the stores (and thus customers!) which helped them become so popular in past 10 years. Buying cheap 710 from China is the reason why 90% of people know about Sanrenmu.

It should be available on the official Sanrenmu store on aliexpress, so it should be rather cheap but titanium is a luxury material and not better than steel or G10 handle. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/4400046?spm=2114.10010108.0.0.47ab736cb3PIZa

Look at this cute pendant knife  http://www.sanrenmu.com/product/6155/
They are also making pens http://www.sanrenmu.com/product-category/products/zhanshubi/

Thinking of getting a Sanrenmu 9015 as my first folding knife.

Any other knives that I should look out for, budget is upto 50-60$. Just need a cool loooking knife for rare use.

CRKT Swindle

$36

The problem with the $50/$60 range is that there’s too many to choose from
In this price range I would definitely look at the CH brand, there’s plenty to choose from below $60.
Here’s a LINK that I created that shows the ones carried by Fasttech (usually cheaper than other places).
If you can stretch your budget by $10, I would get the CH3504 , Anodizes titanium, S35VN steel and definitely the cool factor with the milled skull. Hard to find better for the price.

The Sanrenmu 9015 seems a bit heavy at 155 g. Have you considered Sanrenmu 910 plus, 9103 and 9104? All of them weight less then the 9015. Here is my review about them.

I have one, as well as the smaller 7089. It is a very nice knife, and good value for money, but I wouldn’t buy the 9015 as my first or only knife. It’s too big for everyday use and carry. Unless you know you want a big knife and it’s suitable for your uses or you’re using it outdoors or something. The venerable 7010 is much more versatile, but a bit too common.

For USD50 you can get much higher end knives, but if you’re only getting one then you have to carefully consider size, locking mechanism, blade shape etc.

Have you looked at Ruike? The P108 and P801 models are popular. They’re supposed to be also made by Sanrenmu/Realsteel. Depending on shipping, you can also look at some US brands like the low end Spydercos.

Just received this Ganzo 7551 orange G10 handled knife/cleaver.

I like the quality of mfg, and fitment. It’s different enough to excuse its truly bad sharpness. It rivals my FB7603 for out of the box dullness. Its hard to love a dull knife, butt it does fit my hand and I like the choil.

Maybe I can use it as a butter knife as long as the butter is room temperature. :disappointed:

It must be a sign from above that the time has come to test your sharpening skills!

Here is my review about these budget friendly frame-lock folders.

Another day, another Cold Steel… The Pocket Bushman in CTS-BD1…Couldn’t resist… ~30€ shipped from the US… a good deal for me :sunglasses:

Slaying tomatoes with confidence!

It is a bigger more modern Douk-Douk. :sunglasses:

or to expect more or less for my money per manufacturer?
either way, I’ll flail this monkey to my satisfaction.

Yes, apparently the Douk was an inspiration for this model. At least the Cold Steel has a nice and sharp edge out of the box :smiling_imp:

You should do yourself a favour and buy a proper sharpener. It could save you a lot of frustration.
An issue like this can be fixed on a Spyderco Sharpmaker under 5 minutes.
