Osram Oslon Boost HX

So it is not hard to fit on an XP board

Hopefully it has better tint options than the flat black.

I suspect the tolerances / (lack of) accuracy of the reflector will make it very difficult to get a tight and even beam.
Maybe i’m wrong.

Yeah, the color temp is a bit of a bummer i.m.h.o.
But it could be marketing to introduce this LED with the most impressive output.
I assume warmer tints will come later.

The Black Flat’s tint never bothered me. It is a cool white yes, but it’s the purest cool white I’ve seen of any LED— no green whatsoever (when driven hard, anyways).

Hopefully this will be the same. Hard driven Black Flat is probably in the range of 7000k, so this will be a little warmer.

Adding an RLT collar also makes it much warmer.

Now I seriously think that we should try to talk retailers (KD?) into buying these LEDs. A reel (2000 emitters) is a lot, but unless it’s hugely expensive it should sell well.

Well the black flat is more than twice as much as a normal cree LED.
The CSLNM1.TG is almost $10 per emitter.
$16000 per reel isn’t particularly cheap.

Yeah, a lot. I still think it would sell, but that’s a significant amount sunk for a while.
BTW some further notes from the datasheet:
Osram offers tints as warm as 4700K. But the warmer ones get above BBL. To get pure white one needs to go to 5600K. Cooler is below BBL.
Charts end at 8A. Actually you’re allowed to pulse it at that current as long as temperature doesn’t exceed 104 C. And as long as pulse length doesn’t exceed 0.001s.
If we take the manufacturer’s 1400 lm and scale that to 8A we get 270 cd/mm². At still good 62 lm/W.
But the LEDs are cold-binned. Increase the temp to 85C and you’re back to 240 cd/mm² at 56 lm/W. Still not really bad.

There is a good chance, that RS Online will sell them in a pack of 1 to 5.
(Basically the sell a wide range from Osram Opto, compared to other large seller.)

Actually, DTP 4040 looks almost like a perfect fit:

You can see in picture DTP version of 4040 on the left, and mosX version on the right.

mosX version is "the real" one, DTP version has narrower central pad because DTP technology has its clearance limitations between DTP pads and top layer regular copper pads.

DTP 4040 has 1.9x4mm central pad dimensions, A,K pads are 3.7mm tall, and overall footprint width is 3.7mm, this is almost perfect for SX, much better than XP.

I will try to contact my few distributors regarding this led, and maybe start a group buy, since I already have DTP boards

Well, that’s good news.

Are your DTP boards made of one solid piece of copper like Sinkpads and Noctigons?

Yes.

That is settled then
Now for the leds and we’re in business

waiting for the test

You’re amazing, thanks so much

Yaaaay! :+1:

Yes Led4Power… Go for it…

This will be ultra thrower for sure and I really really know that. No need for any special testing I guarantee that to whole forum  :+1:

BUMP this topic to create more demand, which will help getting these (well, hopefully).
