TK said earlier in the thread that it’s probably too late to request a different emitter. This would be a DIY swap - either reflow yourself, or hope someone who offers that as a service picks up the SST-20. Mountain Electronics already carries the SST-40, so it seems likely enough.
The LH351D has higher output and efficiency than the SST-20, but a considerably larger emitter area, giving it less throw.
You can also just buy the mcpcb with the emitters pre soldered. I swapped a bunch of Kaidomain mcpcbs with SST-20 95CRI into my flashlights and it is very easy to do. I don’t have to reflow the emitters myself. The FW3A uses Carclo triple optics so the MCPCB should be interchangeable with the Kaidomain and Noctigon boards.
True. I knew the poll results had been passed along, so I guess that’s a bit of a blind wish on my part.
I suppose I’ll wait and see what I think of the light in hand. If I’m not quite happy with whichever emitters are offered, the cost of buying an SST-20 triple board looks pretty reasonable.
On that topic, how does one order this combo on Kaidomain? It looks like I have to add 1 emitter and board, which appears to be priced a bit higher than buying those parts separately (reflow service included?), and then add 2 additional emitters to my cart.
Hmm…I guess that must be it. When viewing the triple option on the page specific to the 4000K emitter, I didn’t think the price seemed right - $6.99 for a populated triple board, versus $11.72 buying the pieces separately.
Oh! Thank you so much. I do what I can, but I don't dedicate much time to it, And language problem, thanks to ToyKeeper who corrects my mistakes. Why do I do this?
I suppose, in the absence of The Miller, someone had to continue.
Greetings.
This seems to be getting so late, with such seeming lack of interest from Lumintop.
Last I heard was that two (yes just two) proto. v3s had been sent to TLF designers. So far with zero feedback AFAIK.
If I had to predict, I’d say it is as dead as a Dodo, Lumintop will have taken whatever knowledge they thought valuable.
Meanwhile the world has moved on, emitters and decent drivers are much more sophisticated. And triples and quads are rather old-fashioned and limited in so many ways.
If I was a Lumintop product designer with ambition, I’d probably make the same decision, move forwards, not back, and Can this one.
Perhaps they won’t, officially, because of “losing face”, but that’s what I think I see happening. The previous project (GT) probably burned them off, considering how badly they handled it regarding delivery. Perhaps more to do with un co-ordinated BLF people than them.
But they did eventually deliver and kept their promises. An honourable company. If and when they are prepared to accept my orders, I will be at the head of the queue. Unless the thing is just so out-dated that I don’t want it anymore.
Edgy Western design ideas, and freaky drivers, component and LED selections, put into a race-tuned body, may have just been too much for them, and I do think the moment has now passed.
Perhaps I am wrong though, nevertheless if it ever happens it will be well out of date (and frankly a mechanical monstrosity which I doubt will ever be reliable)
So sad for the BLF and TLF people who put such hard work into the mechanical, driver and firmware designs. I do sincerely hope that I have got this wrong, and it will all become perfect.
Lumintop, if you have any soul, refresh this thing, make it, ship it, even if you lose money on every one, you would be respected just for doing this. Otherwise, not so much.
