Sofirn Q8 group buy (gb closed, but try PM to Sofirn for discount)

I would say just wait for the extension tube for the Q8.

You’ll get 8x18650 compatibility and the ability to draw massive power levels. And much higher capacities compared to 8x18350s.

……… POOF!

Kawi , I had three in my scratch build that drew 21A at 13,000+ lumens, no poof!

The one in my Jaxman is making 3000 plus on two 14500’s. Think it’s at 3A or so in that light.

Djozz has tested them up to 15A.

But yeah, there’s that possibility which is why I asked. The Quad set up may make the difference, don’t know…

Either way though Kawi, I’ll have 4 more HI’s you can have…

The Q8 ramping mode blinky settings has me confused. Double click to turbo, double click to strobe…then what ? I have tried single, double, and long presses and I can get it to change strobe types sometimes but not with any consistency, Also , it doesn’t memorize the change for next time. Should it remember the new strobe setting?

I don't think so. You do have to keep on clicking till you get to the Blinky you want.

you can’t dilly dally when in strobe, as soon as you enter it, you need to click to the strobe mode you want, single clicks, within 1 second or that mode will lock in….
unless you got a defective light but i have never heard that particular issue.
& no, it doesn’t save strobe settings.

Hard to tell which strobe mode you have switched to if you have to click within 1 second in order to keep switching.

Yep, it is. :+1: . . To eliminate this problem just memorize/remember the number of clicks it takes to go to the strobe you want. That way you do not have to ‘see’ it to get there.

Good tip, thanks.

My pleasure…. I learned it the hard way. . . .

Just click to any blinky mode besides the first one.

It will lock in after 1.2 seconds. Press and hold and it will go back one blinky mode and unlock for 1.2 seconds, at which point you can go forward through all the modes. If you stop on the wrong one, press and hold to unlock again.

This is the same procedure for mode sets.

Blinky modes are not memorized.

Try this video, it’s not very good, but it shows the basics.

/\ …… Thanks for that info Jason. . :+1: . I didn’t realize that could be done. Of course I rarely use blinkies……
I have number of clicks to ‘beacon’ memorized & that’s it for me.

I watched all your videos , Jason. They were very helpful… I don’t use strobe much but I was just monkeying around with it and wanted to learn it. Thanks.

I got my Sofirn Q8 from AliExpress. It came with NarsilM v1.0, I have flashed it to Anduril (09-07-2018 hex).
My side switch button does light up, and can be configured to Off, Low, High or Blinking states.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by no side-switch back-light? The side button totally does not light up green?

I ordered three from AliExpress on the 27th, managed to get in on the group buy by asking nicely with a pretty please. I lurk here a lot but never had much to say, so I never bothered making a BLF account before now… I’d been watching this thread for about a week and a half but didn’t have funds ready until the 27th, was stressing that I’d miss out on the group buy because I’m “not” a member of BLF (even though I certainly FEEL like I’m part of the community here, lol, I’m just the shy one droppin’ eaves from the corner) but it all worked out in the end!

So, I’m sorry if this has been answered already but it’s been a long haul getting through this thread and I’m dealing with a bit of information overload here after reading through 30 pages in what little spare time I get these days. Did we ever find out if the LEDs will be V3 1C or V3 1D? In post #147 djozz talks about this, but I wasn’t sure if that meant something like “we don’t know which will get sent to the factory from the distributor but every light will have emitter X” or “our order from the distributor will contain a mixed bag of 1C and 1D emitters but each light will contain four of emitter X” or “our order from the distributor will contain a mixed bag of 1C and 1D and each light will have four random emitters” (ie, potentially a light could be made with three 1C and one 1D) …like, it’s a lottery, but what KIND of lottery?

^ I can’t remember if I checked the final tint in my Q8 sample other than: it is a fine cool white tint without hints of red or green.

Will try to do some measuring actual tint tonight if I did not do that already.

d_t_a, that’s correct… on 2 of these Sofirn Q8’s that I’ve flashed Anduril into the side switch doesn’t light up at all. The second one I even downloaded the hex file again just to be sure something didn’t go wrong in the download. So I have 2 Q8’s here that have no light in the switch, none at all, the configuration menu that works for you only works as momentary for me. No idea why. Everything else works fine.

On my second Sofirn Q8, I have replaced the tail pcb with a copper disc, soldered Blue’s heavy large springs directly onto this disc, put 20ga spring bypasses inside the springs. So now, on the same cells (fresh charge) it makes 6379.05 lumens, up from the stock 5775.3 lumens… a 603.75 lumens gain.

Each of the four XP-L HI’s is making 1594.76 lumens.

(The point I’m really trying to make here is that Sofirn built these lights quite well, very close to maximum performance right out of the box.)

On 2 18350 Vapecell’s they go poof…FETDD driver, never seen one make it past 11-12 amps myself…so I quit using the 8awg test loop and Amp meter to test…current pull. I had one 50.2 on 2 Efest 18350 I would charge to 4.0v but it went poof later on down the road…when I put 2 18350 Aspires in it… I forgot… :person_facepalming:
