Sofirn Q8 group buy (gb closed, but try PM to Sofirn for discount)

d_t_a, that’s correct… on 2 of these Sofirn Q8’s that I’ve flashed Anduril into the side switch doesn’t light up at all. The second one I even downloaded the hex file again just to be sure something didn’t go wrong in the download. So I have 2 Q8’s here that have no light in the switch, none at all, the configuration menu that works for you only works as momentary for me. No idea why. Everything else works fine.

On my second Sofirn Q8, I have replaced the tail pcb with a copper disc, soldered Blue’s heavy large springs directly onto this disc, put 20ga spring bypasses inside the springs. So now, on the same cells (fresh charge) it makes 6379.05 lumens, up from the stock 5775.3 lumens… a 603.75 lumens gain.

Each of the four XP-L HI’s is making 1594.76 lumens.

(The point I’m really trying to make here is that Sofirn built these lights quite well, very close to maximum performance right out of the box.)

On 2 18350 Vapecell’s they go poof…FETDD driver, never seen one make it past 11-12 amps myself…so I quit using the 8awg test loop and Amp meter to test…current pull. I had one 50.2 on 2 Efest 18350 I would charge to 4.0v but it went poof later on down the road…when I put 2 18350 Aspires in it… I forgot… :person_facepalming:

Hi Dale, were the original springs bypassed already, when you measured those 5,775 lumens? Regards, Thomas

The original springs are doubled, one small one inside a larger one. No wire bypass. And yes, the doubled springs are what gave it 5775 lumens.

Wow! The large springs are actually thicker compared to the original, and the inner spring is quite a bit taller too. And you got 5700 lumens from it?

Makes me excited, as I just shipped you and the others the rest of your orders of BeCu springs, both big and small.

That means you could potentially do a dual BeCu spring array, and perhaps get as good performance as a bypass!

And my Sofirn Q8, with stock XP-L HI’s, is now making 6513.6 lumens.

This new 158.7 lumen gain simply by swapping in an incredibly clear UCL glass lens from flashlightlens.com. This is a 55mm x 1.9mm AR coated both sides glass lens with 99% transmission. The stock lens has no coatings and is 2.9mm thick, so I had to use a thicker clear o-ring, but other than that it was a straight swap. The UCLp in Acrylic can be had in 3mm thickness for a direct swap. I got one of those as well, put it in the light I have listed as an option in my giveaway, charging the Samsung 25S cells in that one to see what kind of final reading it has…

737 lumens gained by acute attention to the circuit’s ground and a lens swap. (replaced PCB with copper disc, Blue’s large springs, 20 ga bypasses, UCL AR coated lens)

Perhaps you could now replace the FET inside of the Q8 with an Infineon one.

Y’all ready?

The XP-L2 Q8 with all it’s tweaks and the new UCLp lens is up from 9453 lumens to 9936 lumens, by merely swapping the lens.

Gotta love it when a plan comes together!

You’re the first guy with 10k lumens out of a Q8

Oh, I did 10,200 with SST-40’s quite a while back in the original Q8. Sold that one to Slow2Go earlier this year.

I want 15,000 or more now. Considering how to go about that. The power grid on this one I just got is ready to go, just have to figure out what I’m going to do up top and not spend a fortune doing it. I have some thick walled aluminum pipe here as well as some pure copper that is difficult to machine, may just make a copper core for the heavy pipe and then cut an extension with fins to be able to use 8 18350’s to power 4 XHP-70.2’s. That should be good for upwards of 20,000 lumens and maybe then some. Working on figuring it out, this method would enable me to use some components that have been sitting here gathering dust for a while…still would have to spend $100 on emitters and cells. That’s the yuck part.

that would mean your Q8 is pulling between 35 and 40 amps

Probably contactcr, pretty sure I measured it at the emitters at 33.8A.

That might have once been scary, but my M43 is doing 58.8A.

I guess ya get a little numbed to it after a while. lol

Edit: Eyes wide open, no doubt, but it takes more and more to be shocking if you know what I mean…

Did the price go up on Amazon US?

I thought so too ?

Yep, it has. They told us it would be going up soon after the Group Buy ended IIRC.
And so it did.

I was told the deal was good until the end of October… maybe they just meant the code was good until then… :person_facepalming:

Hmmm… I don’t know anything about that. :frowning:
Maybe Sofirn or someone ‘in the know’ will chime in. Good luck.

58.8A, isn't that illegal
