The GT70 is safe as shipped from everything but being run over by a car or dropped in acid. It would be relatively safe to throw it from a moving car! Definitely someone messing with it in transit.
If it was Customs that opened & then half a$$ repacked this, they should be thrown to the Australian Crocs. No call for this less than pathetic attempt at ’repacking’. :person_facepalming:
What a joke! I live up in Brisbane and have both the CW and now (got mine yesterday too) NW versions of the GT70 and neither of them arrived looking anything like that mate!!
I’m not even sure what box that is - my first one arrived in it’s box, in a DHL bag and the second arrived just in it’s box with a DHL label attached. Neither had signs of beimg opened by customs but more importantly, neither had a seam like your box which leads me to believe they either did a really shonky job opening and then resealing it or it was transferred into a different box, or for some reason Lumintop shipped yours in a different box to mine. That’s all I can think of…as to why it is damaged? Yeah, someone definitely screwed you over there and that really sucks. I’d contact DHL Australia and possibly customs but knowing those dogs, I’d expect nothing out of customs

Ah, Ok that makes a lot more sense. Was wondering if I had missed out on some other common measuring scale lol
DC = direct current. Bypass the driver, run the emitter directly off the batteries. Lol
I think a lot of people have measured the candela. I’m sure they will post up.
Lets hope that whatever fall that made a ding in the metal body also resulted in a broken toe or 3.
I thought "DC testing" was referring to how the GT70 performed in a swamp.

What in the actual hell!? I just had my lens crack after I used the light for about 1 minute… it was off and I was using the original CW version when I heard a very strange sound come from the NW GT70 I received yesterday. Had a look and found this… Has anybody had this happen to theirs? I emailed Leo but don’t expect a response from Lumintop for at least a few days. What a disappointment!!!
I’ll keep you guys posted on the outcome when Leo gets in touch…
Not only has the lens cracked but looking at the reflector (that is now covered in glass shards) it seems far worse quality than the original CW version was shipped with. The original reflector was almost perfect except for a slight ‘dent’ which was similar to that noticed by another member. Sadly, this reflector has very clear rings/circular marks on it which I can only assume is from poor machinging or coating. I’ll consider it ruined now it is coated in nice glass shards.
Hopefully I received the exception to the bunch and everyone elses’ units are pristine…
Pretty annoyed. You can see the garbage job they did on the second reflector VS the first with obvious circular markings on the reflector. As for the broken lens, I can only assume lack of care has not only resulted in sub-standard reflector finish but also overly stressed glass (STOP TIGHTENING THE THINGS TO 10000000 Newtons YOU JOKERS!!!) which has broken in the first 5 minutes of use.

Not surprised at all, they tighten the bezel way too tight on some of the GT’s I worked on. Found chips on the edges of a few GT’s when I removed the bezel, shards of glass would fall out, maybe it weakened the Lens. Thermal expansion…(the reflector/lens) it’s got to go some where… :rage:

…but I still have my OG CW GT70 in perfect de-domed condition so I am trying to stay positive…
I have no doubts that Leo will sort this out as I got an email 10 or so minutes after emailing him stating he will get back to me after the Chinese holiday

Would you be able to get a tighter beam or farther throw if the head had a deeper reflector and larger diameter?
This is the first lens I’ve heard about breaking.
Even when some GT’s got dropped in shipping and dented the bezel, the glass held up.
