Odepro recently approached me to see if I would do some outdoor nighttime beamshots of their KL41 Plus Kit. It’s marketed towards hunters. I do hunt a lot, but not at nighttime - about the only night hunting we can do here in Illinois is for coons and coyotes.
Highlights of the kit:
- This is a very full kit in a nice box: the flashlight, 4 modules (white, green, red, and IR), clamp, rail mount, remote switch, two batteries, a two cell charger, and a lanyard. Lots of goodies!
- The flashlight has a nice, deep reflector: very tight hotspot and wide spill
- The LED modules are interesting: these aren’t pills really, it’s actually a segment of the flashlight including part of the housing. They’re pretty nice, and most are labelled on the outside for easy identification
- Build quality seems good
I really like this kit, but I’ve got three nits to pick with the white module, but they’re all personal preference… and thankfully should be easy to fix with a new driver and LED (or I might just dedome the existing LED).
- The LED is cool white - I would have rathered neutral white which I feel helps a lot in the outdoors
- It seems like they’re going for throw with this kit, and they used a XM-L2… I would have gone with an XP-L HI
- Mode order is L - M - H - Strobe - SOS with (on-time) memory. That means you can’t avoid the blinky modes!
If you have any questions about the KL41, let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them.
Now for the meat of this: the beamshots! All shots were taken with my (crumby) cell phone camera, locked at f/2.0, ISO 800, and 1/2 second exposure
