My first Cometa just arrived. So far everything looks fine except for the LED which is far off center. Will it be easy to realign it to a correctly centered position?
I’ve just been told they can’t ship the gift (2x 18650) to the UK, so offered $10 refund. I’m happy with that.
I didn’t need the Cometa, but I’m glad I bought it and it adds to the collection. If my X50 or X65 had better pills I’d prefer them. They also needed blacking out internally, for which I used Stuart Semple Black 2.0, because I couldn’t get any Vantablack paint. I’ve also got a UF-1504, but when zooming I end up undoing the tail cap. The zoom also takes too many turns from flood to throw.
My two Cometa driver don’t have this problem, is it something that will develop over time?
The 2016 is nice disguise, both my wife and daughter thought they’re are not newly bought. Success!!!
Are you going to mod yours id be intetested to see what numbers you get with XPG2? mine does close to my B158 in throw. My numbers are always low when testing candela.
I received mine today, it was missing that vappower 26650 and those freebie 2x18650. I doublecheked my order and it clearly was with 26650. Guess i have to contact BG customer services…
It was the Warsun X65 (right) I had to black out, the Cometa (left) is nicely done from new:
Just out of interest, left to right, Warsun X50 XML, Warsun X65 de-domed XPG2, Cometa XPL HI and UF-1504 de-domed XPG2. Apologies for the bad photo, take on my phone and they are not all at the same brightness.
I have a noob question. What happens if I paint the inside of the head white or chrome instead of black? I want to mod one to use 4xE21A to be used mainly in flood mode for picture taking.
Artifacts.
Even glossy black makes weird artifacts in zoomies.
This one is flat black to avoid this, and get a clean beam
I get mine today, my first light with Bistro UI.
Really nice host (except for the sketchy markings), but I’m surprise that the lens is smaller than on my B158B.
Get today with 26650 cell
Head threads are loose and not resistance during rotation, maybe miss O-ring need to check.
Package is marked 2016-07 I hope also the battery (3.6V) will not 2 year old.
There is no o-ring under the sliding part of the head, which would have been nice in the design to stabilise the head and provide some extra waterproofing. But they did not do that.
A two-year old li-ion battery, if stored at 3.6V, should be perfectly fine.
My cells were 3.45V if I remember well, fine voltage for storing. The cells seem fine, I measured both around 5500 mAh, which is a great capacity. They can draw quite some current but are not the highest current cells around, they say.
The size of the lens compared to the head size is not maximal, but that is a design choice: for every zoomie you need to extend the bezel to protect the lens, and that bezel in principle blocks sideways light in flood modus. Jaxman (=original design of Cometta) chose a wider bezel/narrower lens to aid the beam angle in flood, other manufacturers choose a maximal diameter lens (for their given bezel diameter) for highest brightness in spot modus but the flood is pretty narrow.
