Getting through the anti-robot question

I’ve been unable to log on for about a week, and finally tried to have a new password sent. That involves getting past the anti-robot question. (I KNOW I was using the right log-in data, but — well, I thought maybe my logon expired or something.)

It was absolutely impossible for me to get through the anti-robot question, and I think I tried every possible combination. I’d work at it until I was too frustrated, give up, and try again later. And repeat. How complex could it be? I could not contact the Admin because that requires logging in. If I could log in, I wouldn’t need to contact anyone, Admin or otherwise…

I had no way to communicate with anyone on the site, so finally I Googled various flashlight terms and found a reference on Youtube, on AdventureSportFlashlight’s channel. His suggestions didn’t help either, but at least I wasn’t out in the desert anymore.

Finally I tried this: I switched Internet Explorer to its In-Private Browsing mode, which eliminates all cookies, history, etc. — so I’m just a new anonymous user out of the blue. On the very first attempt, I was able to log in using my original Username & Password.

OK, so now that I’m in, WTH is the secret to getting past the anti-robot? Does everyone have that much trouble, or was the site ‘reacting’ to some cookie or some identifying bit of data that a normal browser might submit?

Sounds like something was REALLY glitching on you. I don’t know what the deal is. I haven’t had to “get past the robot” recently. Sorry for your trouble.

Don’t be fooled DavidEF, he’s clearly a robot. Robert Barr… More like Robot Barr.

Last year I could not log in no matter what, well I had to temp passward everytime. I ended up having to reset my wifi at the house.

My internet connection is terrible.

I have to reset the wifi frequently to access BLF.

I lost interest in building flashlights a few years back. Then the flashlight bug bit me again, went to log back in to BLF after a few years of being awol and couldn’t get in. I tried every password I could think of, went on for a week or so just like you described. I figured out “Your not getting in dude”.
How am I suppose to contact SB if I can’t get in. The only way I could send him a message about my password problem was if I was already logged in. Then it hit me :person_facepalming: , create another newbie account and login.
SB had no problems resetting my password and here I am.

My internet cable email connection causes me conniptions after solving 4 or 5 simple-minded puzzles and then sending me a code to my home phone which has no text ability. It happens when I’m behind my VPN, so I usually sign on before cloaking myself and I can usually avoid it later in the session.

Is there no “forgot your password ?” link in the sign in box?

What is the anti-robot question?
Is it a single question or does it change?

(It’s okay to tell me I am not a robot robot beep boop error error error)

… and creating a newbie account requires getting past the anti-robot. Hence the catch-22 reference…

I had the same problem last week. Would not accept my password. Silly anti robot was a somewhat indecipherable riddle, something like this:

“Do you like flashlights? Write with your fingers CUCUMBER. 7-6=?”

Probably took 10 tries to get the right combo. And no, I don’t remember what it was :stuck_out_tongue:

Very frustrating.

I had the same problem when i first joined , took me a week to get past the robot question tried everything then one day i got an email saying i joined

Hi everyone,

Really sorry for the difficulties. The password doesn’t expire, nor does it change by itself. Login problems are usually the result of the browser remembering and auto-filling the wrong password. Also check the following things:

  • The username is case and space sensitive. Robert Barr is not the same as robert barr or RobertBarr.
  • The username is not your registered email address.
  • Try resetting the password temporarily to something very simple that you can manually type, and disable your browser’s auto-fill feature for BLF.

Sorry for the zany riddle. It’s really a necessary evil. It does work though, if you read it carefully. I always check it to be sure.

In the worst case, please try creating a new user account and sending me a PM. It’s also a good idea to use the browser’s “Ignognito” or “Private Browsing” session to workaround problems, as was mentioned here.

Basically, this site is powered by one of the most well known web engines (“content management systems”) that drives a huge number of really big websites, so I can’t really change the way the password system works, nor is it likely that it would have serious bugs in the password/registration/login mechanisms.

Thanks, and again my apologies to those that have had trouble.

I haven’t had any problems on here at all
kudos
