About proto3, I’m not really sure what changed. If I understand correctly, Fritz sent an updated CAD model and it was built, but I’m not sure what the differences were.
Cawi did some testing and took pictures, but it doesn’t look like anything obvious changed between proto2 and proto3. From the pictures, at least, I don’t think I could tell proto2 and proto3 apart.
So for now I think it’s up to Fritz to check if the changes were made correctly, and otherwise get things moving.
Guess I misread that then, I haven’t been on the forum for a while till yesterday.
I thought I read two version were being produced, one with XP-L HI and one with LH351D.
Maybe I dreamed about it and thought it was real the next day…
I just checked back through the thread, and know of no significant updates on emitters past this post:
Recap for anyone who needs the background:
The FW3A team created an emitter choice poll
The 1st and 2nd place choices were XP-L HI 3D (~4875K) and LH351D 4000K 90CRI respectively
Toykeeper forwarded the results to Lumintop as a recommendation
Hopefully buyers will be given a choice of either, but Lumintop ultimately has the final decision
As an additional note, the plan is for this light to use a standard Carclo triple optic, and presumable a fairly standard MCPCB. It should be possible for picky users with the appropriate skills to mod their lights.
As the poll wasn’t closed on the site when recommendations were sent to Lumintop, people have voted since. At the time the recommendations were sent, XP-L HI led LH351D. Now LH351D leads by 6 votes. They were within a few votes of each other most of the time.
Currently, LH351D beats 219C by 390:171, and XP-L HI beats 219C by 392:223. Both XP-G series options did poorly the whole time. Those patterns were also consistent for most of the time the poll site has been up. It would have been fun if the SST-20-WxH (95 CRI, throwy) could have been an option, but I think BLF became aware of it too late for inclusion. KD sells them on a compatible triple board for $7, and that’s an easy swap for this light.
I think when time to actually order the FW3A finally comes, I’m probably going to order the SST-20 triple at the same time, so when they arrive, I can try both stock and modded and decide which I like better. That price is too good not to satisfy my curiosity.
