Fireflies ROT66 Flashlight

When going to the (stepped) ramp ceiling from off directly (two clicks), the light may regulate itself to an even brighter level (because target_level is set to MAX_LEVEL?), especially when the ceiling is set to a lower level and enough cooling is applied. However if you go to the ramp ceiling in the other ways (memorize that level and then recall or simply ramp to that level), then it won’t demonstrate this weird behavior.

Not sure if this is intended, just willing to let you know.

Good catch. Fixed.

Hadn’t noticed this during testing, since the ceiling was generally high enough that it would regulate down instead of up. The fix is a tiny patch though, and doesn’t change the code size at all.

Great!

Just received my SST20 6500k head replacement for the faulty XPL version.

I measured it at 7000 lumens bang on. The XPL measured around 9000 with 1 LED not working.

Wow, 7000 lumens, that’s high relative to the XP-L. How long can it last in Turbo before kickdown, is the lumens drop/sag quite a lot? eg at 30 sec, 60 secs.

Got my ROT66 XPL hi today. I thought, wow, not only nice looking but so light with three batteries. Then I unscrewed the cap and no batteries lol.

You should contact fireflies… they probably forgot . Lol… I should get my rot66 sst20 today…

Almost take one month to get here…

Yes I got my rot66 sst20 cw. Took almost one month, but it’s worth the wait… the light is included with the aux led and narsil v1.2. I heard newer version are shipped with Anduril…

I measured the lumen with TA tube. I got 6800 lumen with samsung 30q, and 7000 lumen with sony vtc5.

My XPL measures 2,000 lumens more than my SST20 CW and that’s with 1 LED not working, does the SST20 have any advantages over the XPL?

I don’t have a xpl version… so I can’t answer it… sst20 is cheap. I paid only $66 with the coupon code…

Nice. I didn’t get a lanyard or holster with mine. Are they supposed to come with them?

I ordered it around September 12th… i guess it’s all included it, even the aluminum tailcap.

Supposedly the sst20 has a nicer tint with higher CRI, but sacrifices a bit of output compared to the xpl-hi.

The SST-20 throws farther than the XP-L HI

I was about to mention sst20 have good throw… this light is a little beast…

I’m not sure if it throws farther in the ROT66, or just in the GT-Mini. Regardless, the ROT66 isn’t a throwy light no matter which emitters it uses.

As a side note, looking at Vinh’s throw numbers, everything looks about 30% to 40% higher than it should be. I’d suggest multiplying those by about 0.75 to get more accurate numbers.

Vinh’s numbers are a bit higher than measured with Maukka’s calibration but I think 0.75 is a bit much. I think I measured about 1,200 on my XP-L HI 4000k version and others measure 1,2xx lumens with the XP-L 5000k or 6500k version. Vinh measured 1,300 lumens on the 6,500k version.

Edit: Oh sorry you mean throw numbers not lumen numbers.

Yeah. The GT-Mini with XP-L HI gets about 120 to 130 kcd, not 170 kcd. And I’ve noticed similar differences on other lights.

Anyway, the ROT66 seems to work pretty well with SST20 emitters. I still prefer 219B though.

Do you think it is cheaper to buy it from illumn ?

SST-20 is like XPG2 sized die, so dedoming it should be pretty equivalent to dedomed XPG2— probably a little less throw. I can see SST-20 dedomed out-throwing the XPL HI.

Once I get my SST-20 4000k with 804 filter over it from Vinh, I will vigorously compare it to the 219B version. The LH351D 4000k + 804 has a nice tint, but it’s just too floody for my tastes. Others will probably like the sheer output and wall of light kind of hotspot it produces.
