GB Clone Offically "SOLD OUT" 10/21/18 XPL HI 1300LM Focusing AKA Cometa 2016

I think on some drivers the turbo step down because the programed temp is to low?

Also i never heard about the LED rotating its common for zoomies to not have the MCPCB screwed down by actual screws. This system is what is used on most zoomies?

Most likely someone have tighten the alu. disc too much and rotated the MCPCB. Outcome of this MCPCB rotation was either scratched alu disc and shorted with MCPCB solder blobs, and/or led wires get cut by sharp edges of the brass pill and shorted too.
It should have been hold down by two screws to avoid this, but manufacturer cut cost on these screws and tapping.

One other way to think about it, is to buy it for spite.

For every Cometa you buy at 15bux, you’re denying a sale to some other sucker at 47bux. :smiling_imp:

I bought 2 this time round and 1 on original group buy , added some thermal grease to MCPCB then kapton tape over solder joints.

After this it works great for what it is, it is a cheap zoomie with good performance. I have yet to see anything throw like this for £12 inc battery ,Tom Tom if you know of anything that can out flood and out throw this for £12 ($15USD) inc battery please let us all know.

Yes it’s not a torch for everyone but for them who will do very basic mods, it’s a great torch at a great price.

 :+1:

Edit: Shouldn’t have posted that, I apologize

I just got 2 cometa’s today and everything that was wrong with them has been fixed in some way or another. There is a plastic insert on the head side of the battery (well made, milled plastic insert) and what is normally the reflector (don’t know what it is called) has been milled for relief of the solder blobs. Solder work is perfect also. For $15 or $16 these are a bargain if you like zoomies. I’ll try and post pics later.

Awesome deal!

Wow, guess it’s a good thing I bought 3 of them, they are only 49% off now at $47.99 each. Normal price is $96.00 at Banggood. How much were they during the initial group buy? I wasn’t apart of this fabulous forum then.

Only because some fat-fingered idiot, or automated script, pressed the wrong buttons.

Now corrected.

Good luck to those of you who snapped a “bargain”. Maybe even with some “free” cells.

Yes, I am just a tiny bit jealous. But also glad that I missed this. Life is too short to be fixing these shoddy knock-offs up, when you could do so much better, but by all means crack-on, those of you who have time on your hands, and are really cheap.

Edit: “Nevermind the Quality, Feel the Width.” An oblique reference.

I’m out of this thread now, you will be pleased to hear.

They are worth no more than $30, that’s if you get a good one.

Which was about the group-buy price, except that they were all ludicrously bad. In every possible way. And still are, despite some factory re-work. As you will realise from the comments here.

Just do a search for e.g. “Jaxman Z1 Aliexpress” and buy the proper thing, at the proper price. This is a decent torch.

If you live in the first-world, why are you obsessing over perhaps an extra $20 to get the real thing ? That is, if you actually intend to use it, with a use-case, rather than just to add it to a collection to gather dust. Or as a curiosity.

Out now, I promise.

Good grief, can you just give it a rest ?

Yes, of course.

Thank you for bringing this odd bargain to our attention, and congratulations to those who received a bargain.

Please carry on talking about the many and varied ways of trying to make it work properly and reliably.

However it is long gone now, I think. Given the stupid prices that have returned yet again.

Perhaps something like it might return once the Banggood algorithms have settled down.

Meanwhile we could discuss the difference between “cheapness” and good value. Or sensible ways to spend our money, and time.

Which become limited, the older that you get, and an appreciation of quality and distaste of mediocrity (and rewarding that), seem to become more relevant. Once you grow up.

It doesn’t even have to cost any more, once you become selective, and learn to only buy the things that are good, rather than everything that is cheap.

Then there is the backstory, which it seems is instantly forgotten, if even known, by pundits on here.

PS T18, do you have a stake in this game, or are you completely neutral ?

“Out now, I promise.”

Any other promises you wanna make since we now know you don’t keep them?

Yours is one perspective - another is that of a product with a known range of problems at a price perfect for someone that wants to play with it. Many here enjoy doing that cheaply when possible. As someone else said “parts is parts”. It isn’t any more complicated than that and from this perspective the history is mostly irrelevant. Someonelse’s perspective can be equally valid.

  • driver pocket / driver shelf oversize (approx. 19-19.5mm) while pass thru hole is about 17.8-18mm => 17mm driver can be moved over enough to short out on one of the SMD’s or positive lead

This can be good for fix the short circuit driver problem
Please tell us if these adapters you have worked yourself or where to buy them

For the issue Turbo drops out to moon after exactly 10 seconds , anyone redo temperature calibration and the issue disappear?
