FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

My previous experience with very yellow NW lights has put me off from them. I have come to find 5700K is okay (xhp70.2 and xpl).

I put a Nichia 219C D280 80+ CRI 5000K behind a 60Ā° pebbled TIR in a headlamp and really like it. Except for the lower output. For headlamp use I need good color rendition. I sometimes have to identify wire colors in automotive use where CW is not the best choice. I might try a SAMSUNG LH351D 4000K 90CRI LED in a headlamp. I donā€™t think Iā€™ll loose much output and maybe get even better color rendition? I hope itā€™s not yellow! Lol

Also, I guess Iā€™m lucky I donā€™t notice PWM.

I have yet to find anyone on BLF with my particular preferences.

If you donā€™t want it to be yellow, get the LH351D in 5000K.

This is a commendable effort!

About the FW3A, mostly just waiting still. I hear Lumintop wants to adjust a part by half a millimeter, and needs Fritz to update the CAD modelā€¦ so kinda just waiting on that.

Even though itā€™s the lower 80+ CRI?

My problem is that I donā€™t know anyone selling this led on a mcpcb. I can buy the led from MTN E and the mcpcb from led4power, but I canā€™t put them together (reflow). Do you know of anyone selling this combo?

Arrow sells 5000K 90 CRI. They donā€™t sell it on an MCPCB though. It does work on XP/219 size MCPCBs.

Iā€™m not sure what to suggest other than learning to reflow. It does not take a great deal of skill or special equipment. Hereā€™s a demo of reflow with a lighter. If youā€™re concerned about breaking stuff, Arrow has cheap LH351Bs and you can test for functionality using a lithium button cell and a couple wires.

Interesting video zak.wilson, thanks for sharing. . :+1:

Please add me to the list, Iā€™d like 2.

Hello. Im interested in 1 light. Put me in list too. Thanks

Didnā€™t Mountain do custom reflows?

If not, I may be able to help. PM me.

Itā€™s too much hassle. Maybe in the future MTN will get some 4040 mcpcb and make things simple.

The LH351D is a 3535 emitter.

It is? I wonder why MTN doesnā€™t offer them on a mcpcb? I might have gotten this led confused with the Luxeon V.

Iā€™ll ask MTN if they sell them on a mcpcb. It might just be a glitch that the website doesnā€™t show the option.

interested in 1, thanks

They just recently, I believe, started selling them in two flavors:

I think Arrow Electronics also has the 5000K, 90 CRI of both the LH351D and the LH351C.

Please put me on the list.Iā€™d like 2.

This is weird.

You lot are already talking about modding the thing, that does not yet exist.

Very peculiar. Trust the team involved (well, some of them), and lets see where it goes.

After then might be a time to discuss.

Hum, despite I get your point, and despite trusting the team, I guess we may be talking about modding this before the FW3A is completed/ out for sale/ delivered.

Even this is my specific case, and even if I donā€™t know how it will look with the XPL or the LH351 emitters, I am sure (well, 95% at least) that I will probably mod it with Luxeon V emitters just because I love how they make the beams look!!

Brainstorming about modding is something that may even help the FW3A Team to get some nice things on the final version of the flashlight, be it UI, look, internals, emittersā€¦

And, again, being a fan of this project despite delays and all the stuff involved, I trust, appreciate and thank the work done and to be done! :+1:

LOL, modding discussions of lights that do not exist are one of these things that I like about BLF

Of course people are talking about modding it on BLF, whether it exists yet or not. Thatā€™s what we do here.

And given that itā€™s a FET triple with Carclo 105xx optics, thereā€™s sufficient information to predict the results of most potential mods. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll be modding more than one of mine because Iā€™m sure I want one with SST-20s, and there will probably be more emitters that interest me.

Tom Tom, please stop telling everyone what to do or not. I see it in other threads also.

Thinking and talking about possible future mods is one of the reasons for many to be here.
