Light for night speafishing

Hi,I live in Greece and I tried night spearfishing last week I have to say it is nothing compared to day spearfishing I mean you are the hunter so you set the rules.
So a friend of mine dived with me and he had the vega 2 light which is 10+years old and wasn’t powerful enough so I am searching for a very powerful light with the widest beam angle posible, that’s the most important part.Because you may miss a lot of fishes that are close to you.
So far I liked a few lights which are:
1)Bigblue VL3500P which has a 120degree beam angle

2)Underwater kinetics Rechargeable Light Cannon L1 eLED Light which seams very powerful to me but I know nothing about it’s beam angle

For secondary light I already bought a small light if I run out of battery and I have a head light for thing like charging the gun etc…

It would be very helpful if someone could list me something like top 5 light no matter the price I’m determined to pay.

they sell those chineese lights expensive

there are tons of 60-120$ lights on Aliexpress

this light has a pretty narrow beam below 10°
also the LEDs are outdated by newer more efficient ones

also for salt water you want a light with battery carrier,
if the current goes through the outer tube you will have a lot corrosion

Also night spearfishing is 100% illegal in Greece.

What are your thoughts about a waterproof headlamp? This would free up your hands and illuminate what you are looking at. Just sayin’. Good luck with your hunt for light and fish.

I have been spearfishing at night over 100 times and I can give you some advice. It’s different to night-scuba, so different rules apply.

  • You will want a headlamp for working with gear/fish right in front of you, and a powerful primary for searching.
  • Spearfishing is a two handed activity so you must mount the lights in a way that keeps your hands free. Using your primary on a goodman glove or mounting it to a speargun is a good idea. Any light that is dangling will get bashed around on the rocks and won’t live a long life.
  • Water eats light far more than air. You need lights with tight beams to punch through the water. Lights with wide angles will back-scatter too much and you won’t be able to see far.
  • Quality lights with quality batteries will make a big difference to your water time and ultimately your catch.
  • Scuba lights are pretty weak. You will need something stronger. Your primary should have at least 3000lm (real lumens, not fake chinese lumens). More is better.
  • Use short guns. Everything at night is in a catatonic state so get something very short and compact and it will make a big difference.
  • Take a buddy. It’s dangerous.

I am not sure what the beam angles are but Maxtoch makes a couple of different dive lights. One with XHP 50.2 , which should be pretty floody. I do not have either of these , but I do have (or have had) at least a dozen Maxtoch lights and they are great build quality on all the ones I have received.
The Shooter 2X hunting light is not a diving light , but it has went through 2 water test . one being submerged for about 4 1/2 hours in a bucket and the other was for 8 hours being submerged both times there was NO sign of moisture past the Orings anywhere.

The two D01 dive lights that they make should ne pretty solid lights in my opinion if you want to give them a look…………
