HID monster of 3500 lumens

Without words....

If I were rich...........

Never understood the pricing on HID. Would understand 120 USD but this...

Is the first HID at DX?

No, first one appeared around three years ago. Cheaper than this one too - SterOps gear tends to be horribly expensive.

Seems they don't list it any more, it was a lantern-style light for about $150

Eventually found it - needless to say it wasn't in the HID lights listing.

At least is compact (more than the other)

And only 1 mode! Methinks this wouldn't be such a nice night reading light for me... :p

Unless you enjoy reading through a powerful telescope at about a kilometre range.

Turning the pages might be a problem though. :)

But just how do you get a replacement set of three 22430 cells for it? It has three Sub-C cells in the battery pack.

First I've ever heard of lithium Sub-C cells. Does mean you could replace it with 9 5000mAh NiMH Sub Cs and fit the whole thing in a 6D Mag.

I'd avoid this one - hard to find cells of probably very low quality, very high price for what you get.

And it's of very limited usefulness as a reading light :)

Especially not for reading in bed. Light the bed sheets afire probably.
