Klarus Mi1C Cu Review

A few words for Klarus Mi1c :
It is a small EDC flashlight , made out of copper (and also available in Titanium) that makes it premium, producing a nice focused beam with enough light to cover your needs from an xp-l hi emitter .

First Look :

Flashlight in it’s box :

Light comes in a vacuum sealed bag , to prevent the creation of unwanted patina .

Package Contains :

  • Flashlight
  • Micro-usb rechargable 16340 Li-ion battery
  • User manual
  • 2x Spare o-rings

A closer look :

Here we have the flashlight ! A small & classy flashlight … It has a very nice look , with a premium feel

It is made from Copper , giving a very nice look and feel , but makes it a little heavier of course .

Length: 54.5mm
Max Width: 20.5mm
Weight: 56gr without battery !

It’s front side , with it’s e-switch visible :

It protrudes a little , making it easier for you to locate it :

On the opposite side , it has just some cooling fins :

Let’s talk about the details …

Flashlight has a small OP reflector and AR coated lens :

Led is a xp-l hi v3 , and i will guess it is a 1A tint , which btw is nicely centered . The stainless steel bezel is a nice addition too .

It has a deep carry pocket clip already installed :

Note : The black thing at the end seems to be some heat shrinking tube to prevent clip from scratching the light . It can be easily removed .

Body has a unique knurling , with diamond shape :

And at the other end we have the tailcap . There is no knurling there , but still is designed to provide some grip so you can change battery easily :

Nice , “square” threads on the tube :

Tailcap has a gold plated spring on the inside . It has a magnet too that it can hold it’s weight with ease :

It has springs on both sides , so it will accept even long 16340 batteries like the one that comes with the light :

Battery :

With the light comes a 700mAh battery , with integrated micro-usb charger . A small battery like this , with integrated charger , is awesome !

I believe it has a panasonic cell inside .

And the visible USB port :

At the top of the battery , there are 2 indicator leds , showing the status .
Red for charging , blue for battery full .

How it works (&modes) :

On :

  • Hold the switch for approx. 0.5sec and the flashlight turns on on the last used mode .
  • Hold the switch for approx. 1.5sec and the flashlight will turns on on the lowest mode .

Mode change :

  • To change mode , when flashlight is ON , a short click will switch on the next mode .

Off :

  • Hold the switch for approx. 1.5sec and the light will turn off .

Lock-out :

  • To lock the flashlight to prevent accidental activation , from off press the switch for more than 5 seconds until the light blinks .
  • To unlock the flashlight you have to make a triple click . A little weird to be honest .

Measurements :

Stock 700mAh battery

Lumens :

  • Moonlight - ~1 lumen
  • Low - 9 lumens
  • Medium - 44 lumens
  • High - 540 lumens

Runtimes :

Factory Runtimes using 18650 :

  • Ultra Low - 6d
  • Low - 32h
  • Medium - 5h 37m
  • High - 1h 12m

My tests :

Turbo mode (“High” mode in the previous measurements) :

Here is a close up of the first minutes :

At the 1.4 minute mark , flashlight is measuring the temperature , and makes small corrections on the output to keep flashlight cool .

PWM :

Flashlight in lower modes uses PWM , but the frequency is so high that it can’t be seen .

Intensity :

Mi1C : 2,61 kcd

Beamshots :

Wall @ 12m :

It has a small reflector , but xp-l hi makes the flashlight’s throw impressive for such a small light . Tint is Cool white and it doesn’t show any hints of blue/green/yellow .

Control Shot :

Low :

Medium :

High :

More beamshots :

Control Shot :

Conclusion :

An premium EDC from Klarus , with nice output too , making the perfect combo !

  • Made from Copper , gives a nice look & feel .
  • A little heavier since it’s made out of copper , but due to it’s small size it is still great for EDC use .
  • Beam is nicely balanced from the little reflector , xp-l hi still manages to have some throw (and not be completely flood) .

Recommended !

Comment if you want me to check something on the flashlight , or tell your opinion . Thanks !

Exactly ! The little holes are a nice addition , something fresh .

Thanks for letting me know , nice deal there !

Make it 18350 w/tint options = winner.

I prefer 18350 lights , but this one is incredibly small . A 18350 would change it’s style , making it a little bulky .

The Sunwayman might be 18350

I like 18350 for some things also, but it is bigger than 16340, and I like small things too

The USB rechargeable cell is very convenient. And unlike the Olight which is not Nichia compatible, the Klarus might be Nichia compatible. It also I believe has a screw in bezel, so Ive been waiting for someone to report they swapped in a Nichia easily.

The Klarus Mi1c interests me a lot, although I prefer the Olight UI and TIR… there is no perfect light

The 16340 USB rechargeable LiIon is offered by Klarus, Olight, and Fenix, they all come from the same factory afaict, and I like them a lot because they do not need be recharged in the light, and also dont require a dedicated charger. The USB battery is included with the Klarus, but not with the Olight S Mini.

another advantage of the Klarus over the Olight S Mini, is the Klarus has a battery level indicator. The Olight S1 Mini does have battery monitor, but is not offered in Ti nor Copper.

I hope someone confirms they have successfully modded a Klarus to use a High CRI Nichia LED. Ive been debating getting one for a long time… not sure how much longer I can resist… LOL

Thank you very much for the runtime graph. Looks well regulated at about 240 lumens for the majority of the runtime

Thanks for the review. I agree that this light is really nice.

Swapping the led is straightforward: the bezel can be unscrewed with a strip of inner tire and it is all standard after that.
I modded it with an E21A which required a different ledboard, that had to be adapted, but if a standard 3535 led is used it is an easy swap on the stock board. (a short description of my led-swap here)
I just finished a runtime test on moon setting of my (modded) Mi1C Cu and with a constant output of 1.5 lumen over the entire runtime, the light shut down at 80 hours and the battery at a resting voltage of 2.84V.

great info, suprised the low is so high, since the high dropped by over 50% with the drop in CCT

Delicious and wonderful!

Does the “PWM or Constant Flicker” show on Low easily, do you notice the flicker at all, have you tested waving the light or photographing up close
this thread has some photos of the Constant Current Flicker of the Olight S Mini and Klarus Mi1c

Perhaps the current on moon mode is higher with the low voltage E21A compared to the high voltage XP-L Hi, but I did not measure the stock current so I can not tell for sure.

I can’t see any PWM on any mode by waving the light before my eyes, and my camera can not see it either.

thanks for the info and beautiful photos!

Does the Klarus mode memory include moonlight?

My Olight Minis do remember moonlight.

My newly arrived Utorch S1 Mini does not memorize moonlight.
If turned off in moon, it clicks on at Low.

All the lights have a press hold, to moon from off, but not all have a single click to moon, by using memory.

I wish everybody would just standardize on the Olight UI, click on, click off.

Yes, Memory works in any mode on my cu and ti Mi1C.

will let you know in a few months how the E21A 2000k reacts in a Utorch S1 Mini (moon is 0.2 lumen on my meter), that is on its way to Bali for a transplant atm. I like your warm LED a lot.

Im really enjoying the aspheric lens and NW option of the Utorch. Tempted to try an aspheric Klarus too.

Thank you, very helpful.

I considered the Ti and Cu Klarus, but atm Im in an aspheric phase

Look at Clemence’s E21A 2000k Quad in a Utorch S1 Mini

I am ecstatic!

Is the pocket clip permanently attached?

Amazing little light, such a shame there is not a warm white LED option.
