Sofirn SP33 26650 e-switch flashlight

Not really. The side switch design is all wrong. You need a light with a seperate switch, not one built into the driver.

I was searching this forum for a 26650 flashlight and settled for the sofirn one but apparently that model has been recently upgraded.

Those are the notable differences I found.

※ Emitter: CREE XHP50.2 LED

※ Working Voltage: 2.8V-4.3V

※ Battery Options: One 18650 Li-ion battery or single 26650 battery

※ Dimension:128mm (length)*37mm (head diameter)

※ Weight: 150±2 gram (without batteries)

※ Aerospace grade 6061 grade aluminum alloy, CNC manufactured to hard-anodized anti-abrasive finish to get solid built body, anti-crash geometry and better heat exchange.

※ Toughened mineral glass lens; Orange peel reflector

※ The waterproof level: in accordance with IPX8 (Ingress Protection X8- resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 2 m underwater for up to 30 minutes)

※ Mode Memory: It memorizes the last brightness level used in the general modes (except Strobe and Turbo)

※ Advanced Temperature Regulation (ATR) technology: ATR will adjust the brightness automatically when the temperature reaches 55℃ (131 °F) to prevent overheating.

※ Automatic Step-down: Turbo mode steps down to High mode after 2 minutes of working to prevent overheating.

Step-down and Advanced Temperature Regulation (ATR) coexist.

※ Power Indicator: The LED indicator on side switch displays Green for 5 seconds if remaining battery power is good. The indicator is Red, if battery power is poor. Red Flashes indicates extremely low power - replace or recharge battery as soon as possible.

※ Reverse polarity protection from improper battery installation.

※ High Voltage Protection: The light cannot turn on if the voltage was over 5 Volts

※ Low Voltage Protection: the light turns off automatically when the voltage was lower than around 2.6 Volts; The Turbo will be disabled autocratically when the voltage is lower than 3.4 volts; It steps down to lower modes automatically when the voltage is lower than 3 Volts

Has anyone else noticed or reviewed the updated version ?

Thanks for your time

Yes, I recently became aware of this updated version when Sofirn asked me to translate the new manual into German language. AFAIK it's more or less some kind of a "silent relaunch" with the new XHP50.2 version and according to their webshop on AliExpress it has started to roll out this month. I have purchased it for something like $ 23,- which is in my opinion a really nice price. They might also offer it on Amazon later on both with and without battery and charger just like they did with the C8F 21700 but this is yet to be confirmed by Sofirn.

Thanks for the heads up, hadn’t seen that.

About how many lumens does it put out with the new XHP50.2?

What do you think the change in emitter will do to the hotspot?

I’m becoming more and more interested in 26650 lights. This could be a nice addition.

Ehhhh, about that.

The XHP50.2 is going to be a tint mix of the rainbow. Not as bad as an XHP70.2, but still worse than the XHP50.

So around 2250 lumens that it would output I reckon.

Yeah, I’d rather have an XP-L Hi pushed hard but nobody asked. The XP-L2 and XHP-50.2 are flip chip technology, as such they can be sliced and diced to improve the beam profile but it’s sort of tedious work… not horrible but better to not have to.

What about cut the dome of 50.2 will the tint get better beside more throw?

Thanks for the info.
I’ll still keep this one on the radar.

You have to slice the dome off close to the phosphor and then cut the phosphor and silicone off the sides, where it overlaps the substrate. This is the part I call dicing because it’s a vertical cut. This leaves the bare die on the substrate with no extra phosphor to pollute the beam, pretty much eliminates the bad aura, but costs some lumens in the end as is typical of a de-dome or slice.

Thanks DB ,I will take this SP33 50.2 may be on 11.11 sell.

I’ve thought about leaving the dome on, but dicing off the corners of the led where you have extra phosphor (or at least extra yellow stuff). I wonder if that would reduce the yellow corona any?

I like the dome, but not the yellow.

I haven’t tried leaving the dome and just clearing the substrate, might be a little tricky to not push the dome off and remove phosphor but a really sharp blade helped with some silicone grease so it doesn’t grab might do it. A guillotine style vertical chop down beside the die and then an outward flick, should do the trick. Try it and see how it works…

In looking over the new version specs I see they changed the UI so it’s now a single click for on/off and you press/hold to cycle the modes. They don’t mention the color temp, but I assume it’s their usual 5300K-5700K.

I was buying some stuff from the Sofirn store already so I added this model to the cart. I will do a little review on it once it arrives.

I just noticed the new version now has an XHP 50.2. As nice as the XPL is, I kinda regret getting it but I'm tempted to buy the revision. I just don't want two so I guess it's time to list it and other lights for sale.

Yes, this new version has a pretty decent powered boost driver, assuming it can actually do 2500 lumen. Other boosted lights with this led only manage 2200 lumen (Astrolux FT01 US$ 54). I’m guessing the amp draw will be between 8A and 9A. It’s between 5A and 6A and 2200 lumen.

Yesterday I added this flashlight to the cart. The price was *$ 29.99*. This morning I went to pay for a flashlight, but the price is already *$ 37.49*. So I decided not to buy anything at the Sofirn shop and spend money in a different place. The flashlight was good in terms of price/quality. But for this money I can buy a more serious brand. Goodbye, Sofirn. I wish you good luck in business.

The issue is resolved! The seller changed the price to the old one. Very fast and friendly. Thank you, Sofirn!

I paid $22.70 (no battery).

It looks like $29 with 26650 battery right now.

Even at $38, it’s still much cheaper than the Astrolux FT01 at $54 on sale. Boost driver lights are usually pretty expensive, in the $60 to $130 range.

1. The price jump is unreasonable - more than 30% overnight.
2. Why compare with this flashlight (Astrolux FT01)?
Compare better with Haikelite SC26 (36:money_mouth_face:.

It is premature to judge Sofirn as an unfair company that artificially increases prices. Prices on Aliexpress generally fluctuate a lot. Now the price is the same - $ 23. I have Sofirn the best experience. Very friendly behavior. Instead of a faulty lamp, they sent a new one when the steel clip was missing at the lamp, Sofirn sent two and a little gift. Sofirn is a good company. Flashlights are high quality and cheap.

Sofirn has another second store at Ali - Beamax Lighting Store. That’s how the complete kit (including charger and battery 26650) costs only US $ 27.78.
