Tiny USB lights

Not ebay, but here’s example:

Neat idea, X3!!
These are small enough to keep at every location you might be at. Always waiting for the lights to go out….

Yeah, teeny ones in CW and WW (!), bigger ones with integrated touch-switch (on/off, ramping), and don’t forget the “toothbrush” lights, usually COB but sometimes discrete, that also come in handy.

I kinda stocked up on a lifetime’s worth when GB was blitzing these things at wonderfully low prices (now, forget it, 10× as much).

Especially the WW ones make great nightlights, ’though the pwm can be horrible. Just scan the room with your eyes and you’ll see a big connect-the-dots trail.

Still, I carry 2 of ’em in the little pouch-thing in which I keep my earplugs and flash-thingy.

I love how for some sellers the touch control thing translates to an amazing :

"Using the latest fingerprint technology, it will be able to use your fingers to achieve control of LED lights"

Wow ! Fingerprint technology ! ;-)

@ -X3- : Ok i got the pictures , Privacy Badger doesn't like googleusercontent.com very much ! Could you please provide a link to the glue you use ?

Sure, Kafuter UV glue

Yeah, what glue is that? I don’t get that nice shiny finish with Kafuter.

edit:
So it’s Kafuter…
Why don’t i get that shiny finish??

Once it’s cured with UV, you should have a sticky but shiny surface…
The problem is that the sticky finish will collect fingerprint, pocket lints etc…
So you have to polish it, on a denim jean for example…

I guess the sticky surface is no good for output…

Indeed, sticky finish is what i get too.
Clean and polish then.
You did a nice job at that. :+1:

I’ve got this type of a light today. White.
It’s a bit larger than I expected really.
Has no UI, plug in to turn on. Beam is mostly rectangular, not clean. Very cool ugly tint. I don’t like it.

It would be cool to have a micro-USB sized light…Type-A light + micro USB adapter = not so tiny….
I did a quick search, failed to find anything.

I wonder if it would be easy to use oshpark or similar service to make a simple light with Optisolis and resistor…

I’ve got my second set.
Warm variant of these:

Beam is artifact-free. Tint is OK. I like….but they were too large.
So I decided that I wanted to be like CRX, took a file and worked on it until I liked the result (checking if it’s still working from time to time).
At one plug-in, there was a blink and the light went dark.
No good.

So I took another, filed a little less. It works and is significantly better than stock. And it weighs 13% less too! That’s a whooping 0.4g saving.

In my powerbank:

You know you’re a true flashaholic when the powerbank you attached your USB light to is a flashlight in and of itself

I intend to use it as an alternative to diffuser that weighs less and produces warmer light.
Will it work well? I’ll see.

I have a couple of those that I justed used with my power banks during a 3 day snow storm power outage. They were easily as useful as my fancy expensive lights!

Yep, and the WW ones are soooooooooo inviting…

I found an RGB variant with a physical switch:

Dang, what dungeon did you crawl through to find this treasure?

Actually I stumbled upon it while looking for something entirely different. I think powerbank controller boards with Type C.

I got the ramping version, which is a little touchy (no pun intended). It’s kind of random what level of light you’ll get. If I buy more I’ll look for a different interface.
They are cheap ($0.89) enough that I bought a handful. I left them in the little plastic bags they came in and distributed them liberally. There’s one in my backpack, wallet, bag of cables in my laptop bag, desk drawer, and rubber-banded to each of my power banks.
