Sofirn Q8 group buy (gb closed, but try PM to Sofirn for discount)

woulda thought light saber, maybe?

or burning laser like The Andromeda Strain

Well, you’d better be off somewhere else at 3:07AM if the demon infests your house and neither 10.000 lumens nor Mr. Smith‘n Wesson can help you out... }) }D

Talking about security and blinding an attacker, you can try this yourself. Try to look at your Sofirn Q8 from a distance of 1m, strobe or 100% ON, it’s extremely deterring. You’d need at least a 100k cd value on the target to truly have any excellent chance to prevent an attacker from advancing towards you, such that he’d need to put his hands in front of his face and not have direct sight on you holding the flashlight. ie effectively blind.

That lux value on his face plus a reasonably big sized hotspot as you’d be in a panic situation so no extreme throwers please.

Try out the effect yourself with your flashlights.

Actually you don’t need flashlights, you can just try it by looking at the sun during summer.
A 100% beam or strobe would be fine.

You should be armed with some pepper spray or longish stun gun. Don’t need lethal weapons.

Of course if the perpetrator has a pistol or worse automatic machine gun so that he could spray in the direction of the light, then all bets are off.

Anyone that breaks into your house in the night is a deadly threat and should be treated as such

:+1: …. Amen to that!! … + 1000

I’d love to pump a perpetrator/attack full of lead or copper in my house but unfortunately guns are banned here. Actually stun guns/mace/pepper sprays/long hobby knives too.
So we only have kitchen knives and choppers. :frowning: But it works both ways, both the attacker and me would not have access to guns/sprays, so it’s an even playing field in those regards.
I still can carry a flick type manual hobby/tactical knive like a CRKT M16 or even an EDC type of knife, they do get past customs extremely often via certain channels, but good luck to myself should i get myself into a routine police spot-check which is of a much higher probability than getting mugged/raped here in my country.

The idea of self-defence with a flashlight is not new. It might not even be in the house, but even during a run in the park (my country is very safe, but still people do get robbed and raped during runs around the more secluded parts of parks and reservoir areas etc).

There are many ways to this. (1) Disorients the attacker with pure lumens/lux, this is something that would be of the most interest to flashaholics. :cowboy_hat_face: (2) Tactical flashlights as an attacking tool, an improvised weapon. An attack front bezel does the most damage but of course it might not be always legal. (3) Both of the above : Utilize point 1 first, then apply point 2 during the window of opportunity when his vision is screwed with bright purple spots all over his retina FOV and perhaps extremely disoriented due to the police strobe effect.
ie blind n disorient with flashlight, then poke him with it.

With all that being said, i think the Sofirn Q8 is a somewhat effective tool. At 1-2 metres, there is enough lux (100k to 25k) esp in a darkened environment. The hotspot size is not overly small, at 1 metre it actually is approx the size of a human head and is not overly difficult to aim optimally, 2 metres is even better while maintaining enough lux.
A soda can light is also about the max that you can comfortably carry (even when running) majority of the time be it holstered or in the pants, either that or a Convoy L6 style light in the back pocket with the head sticking out.

Top it off with a Klarus XT11GT with an strike attack bezel and it’d be very nice indeed, everything is done while staying perfectly legal in 99% of countries out there.

I mentioned “somewhat effective” tool, coz seriously IMO, it’d be better if we have the Imalent R90C performance squeezed into a soda can light, 500k-1M cd and 20000 lumens.
Unfortunately that means next-gen LEDs, or more possibly matured LEP tech. Better battery tech with a revolutionary change is also welcomed too.

That’s not what I am seeing in the potential for a weapon Q8.

Just strap on the extension tubes, bypass everything in the light, use Luxeon Vs, and let her rip as an attack weapon

Quite literally. It would be a sun baton

Nice!

I agree. We tried but I don’t know why engineer told the hex files we received can NOT be modified. I think they use different software to modify.

Wellllll, you wouldn’t modify the .hex files…. that’s what the C files are for.

.hex files are what actually get flashed into the MCU for the UI, 1’s and 0’s in binary code. C files are the written code where changes can be made. C files get rendered into .hex files for use in the light. FWIW that may be WTMI, YMMV. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Sofirn. See this as a suggestion. It could help if one of the Sofirn engineers has enough time, and knowledge of english to be able to visit BLF, so that technical questions can directly be understood and answered.

Got my project Q8 in the mail today from Amazon, shot an unboxing first look on the lightbox with fresh charged Samsung 25S cells. I did forget what the numbers were at 30 seconds, it was actually 16,720 on the meter for 5768.4 lumens. Sorry about that, I can seriously forget stuff in the blink of an eye. It is what it is…

Good video, thank’s for sharing. :+1:

Holy over penetration.454 :+1:

pennzy, not necessarily… like with our flashlights and cells, the right combination usually proves to be worth the effort. Managing power efficiently is always the name of the game, amIright?

Hey guys, is there any discount code to get the BLF Q8 nearly the same price than the Sofirn Q8? I am not so happy with the beam of my Sofirn Q8, it’s a little bit too much throw in my view.

Yes:

Reloader?

Used to, don’t anymore but have boxes and boxes from when I did. CorBon made a really outstanding 200 gr uncontrolled expansion .45 that was really explosive when pushed hard.
