Sofirn is supposed to be sending me 2 drivers to fix this issue. Hopefully they will work better once installed. I have 2 so I will post my results for each light before and after the new driver is installed.
It is quite strange. My driver with Sofirn 21700 was only pulling 7.2A and had 2580 lumen. I swapped to a better FET and got 9.3A and 2930 lumen.
I assume the FET swap helped. Testing a couple days later showed output was down to 7.7A and 2450 lumen. This was a head scratcher. I was thinking maybe the edge of the driver was dirty and not making good contact. I cleaned the driver edge and driver cavity and retightened the retaining ring. Then I measured 9.6A and 2930 lumen.
I don’t think it was dirty, I suspect the driver retaining ring is not tightening fully. It seems to tighten to a certain point and stop firmly instead of how a normal ring will continue to tighten as pressure is added.
SKV89 recieved his replacement driver with its new FET and saw no change in output.
So I’m thinking maybe it’s not a FET related issue, but a connection issue with the retaining ring. I plan to add a copper shim or maybe build up some solder on the edge.
I relayed this to Sofirn. I also suggested they swap to heavier led wire. I recently swapped it to 18ga and got 11.5A and 3330 lumen. So that is an easy factory upgrade that can boost output.
