Hum, being Olight I donât know if they will let the timed stepdown aside⌠I guess their âinternalâ and âexternalâ reliability as one of the biggest flashlight manufacturers is built upon their âcalculatedâ risks in the flashlights they deliver.
However, a temperature sensor as Wuben will do on the TO50R would be better, maybe!
The S1R II also uses a proprietary battery but can also use a standard 16340 just losing charging functionality, I would assume the same case applies to the S2R II
I guess they will always opt for the CW instead of NW in most of their lights ! There is no turning back! :person_facepalming:
But, I donât think their sales will drop (on the contrary), many people around the world love Olight products and these new flashlights will always make them eager to get another one, not caring about tints or other stuff!
They have solid lights soâŚitâs a winning team!
Still, I would like to see them what Sofirn, Wuben, Lumintop (throught BLF projects) are making, that is taking into account the inputs from the âflashlight communityâ (even if they are many and diverse)!
That saidâŚreviewers may try to influence them :innocent: :smiling_imp:
Man I canât count the number of times Iâve tried to make them make an option for, at least, a NW tint on their flagship modelsâŚ
Very few of their models were available in NW⌠but if they take the Luminus path, there is even less chance to get NWâŚ
I believe you mate!! So it is almost a âlost battleâ :zipper_mouth_face:
Most of the impressions of reviewers (most of them on YT and ânon-flashaholicsâ, I guess) is that âWOW, it is so bright, and has shortcut to turbo, and to strobeâ, and thatâs almost all!
Maybe that is what some brands aim for, not a better beam quality or better tints. Stiiill, they could give us some candies now and then
Like on the copper version! That with a NW or even WW tint would be gorgeous! On CW is another very good light, that stands out due to copper!
I get their point but they could get ours as well Thanks for the âpressureâ made so far :+1:
Average non-flashaholic buyer will see a cool white flashlight as brighter/stronger.
Also cool white LEDs are higher lumen/lux and higher efficiency than warmer tints and higher CRIs.
Indeed, both of them! I would say that Olight is guiding by the second (output, efficiency and heat)!
I like all of their lights I have; still, now and then it could be interesting to see something âdifferentâ, other than the aspect and the âinternalsâ (driver, charger, âŚ)! Even if that meant a slight sacrifice of other things such as runtimes! And still I guess their expertise would make them fit to the led specs
Again, thatâs exactly correct. The average flashlight buyer wants, white and bright and could care less about tints and thatâs the majority of buyers. We flashaholics that care about such things really are in the minority and manufacturers are always going to come out with CW in their first offerings.
On the other hand, flashaholics are the reason that some manufacturers will initially come out offering NW with WW, high CRI whatever tint later on.
Honestly I wouldnât care that much if only Olight used some 3535 emitters behind their opticsâŚ
I mean, from the beginning of TIR in Olight product you canât use any 3535 emitter behind themâŚ
Iâve tried XP-L HDI/HI, Nichia 219B/C, XP-G2⌠nothing produces a clean beam with their optics. And when I say ânot cleanâ, I mean ânot usable at allâ⌠artifacts, dark patches and weird shape each time
The only solution is to swap the stock TIR with a Yajiamei flood optic (with the honeycomb.pebble surface) to blend the beam. But you donât have any throw anymore.
My âindoorâ S1R got a 219C 3000K for bedside use/checking my son at night, but itâs all flood with not hotspot. Not mule-ish but not really usable outdoor.
But if youâre not after high CRI, you can choose any XM-L2 with your favorite tint and reflow it on the stock MCPCB⌠when youâre able to open it :person_facepalming:
I donât know if I would risk it if I had to pay for them. But since theyâre free review samples, well Iâm kind enough to make a video when I succeed (and some nasty pics when I fail : see the S1-mini opening :confounded: )
