DARKSIDE | NYMPH (10440 twisty Fet+1 flashlight w/ 4k 9050 219C)

Wow spectacular and a must have two for each hand…

Edit: Made a pledge and it dawned on me that the last Kickstarter I pledged to was Jason Hue, Dark Sucks or Prometheus and that Kick went very well so being I’m a betting man this kick will succeed easily really that isn’t much money to ask for or to raise,
Best of Luck, ah luck my butte, your skill speaks or sells itself.

I got my Beta QR 1AAA from Dark Sucks through Kickstarter too. That light is in my EDC bag all the time as a backup to the backup… I would carry more if it had a clip (or a way to attach a clip… too long with quick-release attachment) like the QR V2.

The Nymph has one built in and again the knurling looks awesome (something that would come from the pure customs that sell for over $200). So yes if this campaign goes to production, I’d include it in my EDC rotation with my single AA lights.

You’d probably remember then just how much that Kickstart was for Jason, a lot more than Hoops, I think Hoop should fly right past that $10k mark.
Jason had sent me an email awhile back, last year I think and there had been a clip finally made for those Beta QR lights, I’ve got the solid copper one.

Well out of my own curiosity I just went to look and though I know he said they weren’t selling at one time it looks like sales picked up … Beta QR Pocket clip
That’s the standard original design but here’s a new one for a trit, looks like I’m going to spend some more money today.
Trit clip ready
As long as your Beta isn’t the ver. 1 you would be alright with this clip, the ver. 1 this styled clip wouldn’t work.
Those other clips needless to say are for the Alpha’s

Evidently you have to create a cult of personality on social media platforms if you want to sell semi-custom flashlights, regardless of quality and price. This is a learning process for me so I am not discouraged that it is not taking off.

If it doesn’t make the goal I will go ahead and spend the thousands more dollars on the custom tooling and custom BeCu springs and get it to production status, then send them out to 50+ reviewers and media outlets to hype it, then relaunch.

Just added to the KS funding. Good luck!

All the best on your venture Hoop. You build a mean little torch.

Would it be possible for you to add a pledge level to your kickstarter that is maybe around $20 over the price of the light(s) for a reduction of modes (specific language - not “custom modes”, but just a choice of fewer modes)? I think many people would be glad to pay that. The light is underpriced as it is. But some will never buy a light with that many modes and no mode memory, especially a twisty. In other words, the light is already worth +$20 anyway (or even more), but some won’t buy because of too many modes. I’m not trying to be critical, just practical. I’ve been here a few years, and I’ve seen that exact complaint many times in threads about some otherwise really nice lights.

I hate that I’m even asking this (again :person_facepalming: ) because this is your art and I feel like maybe I’m not properly appreciating it for what it is. I just really, REALLY want one of these, but with fewer modes. And I have neither the skill nor the equipment to re-flash the driver myself. :frowning:

Alternatively, is there anyone here willing to buy one at the KS price, and re-flash it and ship it to me for +$20 price? :innocent:

I know a guy who could do that for you. I think one of the first three modes will generally be used though. You could change a car tire with mode 3. Of course they keep going.

The plan is to offer multiple firmwares later on, ready to go. One will be user configurable. I can reflash these for people, but it would also be a good excuse to get into flashing your own drivers. Speaking of which, I’m working on an expanded flashing guide.

Yes please Hoop. :+1: :+1:

Wow.

It might help to have some exposure on other forums with, ahem, deeper pockets.

I can start a thread over on cpf if you want.

I made a thread over there in the custom maker forum, but thank you.

Actually Hoop, you are correct but that has been true on the internet long before social media platforms ever existed.

I was a knife enthusiast when I bought my first computer over 20 years ago and joined one of the first knife forums, Blade Forums and soon joined one of the first flashlight forums, CPF. It was such a wonderful time as we talked knives and ways to make our Maglites brighter.

Slowly but surely and after only a few short years, “rock personalities” came aboard both forums and eventually garnered loyal, cult followers that would buy anything they produced no matter what the price and if anyone questioned anything, you were slammed to the ground!

Some of these folks were truly deserving of what they produced and others not so much but what was proven was you needed “cult of personality” and now even more than way back then and that is kind of sad.

Hang in there! You’re a talented guy and follow your dreams!

Ish. It’s a little more complicated than that. Basically, in most cases, it’s important to have a high degree of social currency. This is multi-faceted and an entire field of study by itself, but as a quick summary, here are the five main types of social currency:

  • Transparency: Do you make your work, your processes, and your reasoning visible?
  • Utility: Is what you’re doing useful/valuable to others?
  • Consistency: Are you active and productive frequently enough and over a long enough time that people can rely on you?
  • Merit: Are you actually good at what you’re doing?
  • Trust: Can people trust you? Do you treat others well, communicate clearly, and follow through on your promises?

There is no shortcut for building social currency. It mostly just takes a lot of work over a long period of time. In some cases though, it can at least be partially carried over from one community to another, or one platform to another.

Edit: This model is from Venia, whose research focuses on exactly this sort of thing.

Your list seems to be missing some dark patterns.

Lasted as long as I could - committed for 1

I plegged for one. I was very impressed with the s2+ pill I got from you. The quality and attention to detail was top notch.
I really hope these make it into production. That knurling is some next level stuff I’d love to see in person.

Hello!

I am the “researcher” in question if you can call me that (it’s a tad too generous). The above social currency metrics are my current research targets and I am super interested in what you think is missing in them.

So I decided to do that very, very rare thing where instead of dropping in when interesting community stuff happens, and lurking on occasion, I actually make myself heard because I would love to hear your thoughts if you’re willing to expand on this concept for me?

I know it’s super off topic, so you can either respond here or respond to TK! She’s helping me a lot by providing examples. I don’t log in often but, I’ll watch my inbox for the next few weeks.

Welcome to BLF!

We could prolly use some of that around here, TBH.

Hi Venia, nice to meet you. Hope you are able to help Hoop get a RockStar beginning with this venture, his work is beyond outstanding and I for one would love seeing him amply rewarded for it.

Thank you for your generous help, much appreciated.
