Just one thought, I think either Lumintop GT Mini should be removed from the list (as it’s smaller than C8) or the specs should change to something like “about the size of C8 or bigger” (that would be my vote) instead of “larger than C8”.

Just took a look….just like Acebeam L16 I would be very tempted to add DN35 to the list as the claimed 90 kcd is really nice and not even the lowest on the list. But it’s smaller than C8 and then I’d have to add a score of other lights as well…
Lumintop GT Mini has 50 mm head, C8 has ~45 mm. Though C8 is shorter.
ADDED:
If I added “about the size of C8” lights, I would still have to define some lower size limit. There will always be lights that are just a little smaller, but good performers….
Thanks for the suggestions. UT02 is already on the list. As I explained 2 minutes before you posted L16 would fit the list nicely but such addition would expand the list greatly due to the richness of the about-C8-sized-thrower ecosystem.

Excellent list, very useful, especially the links to tested lux figures.
Regular XP-L or XM-L2 emitters don’t make for the best thrower but the dimensions definitely fit the bill.
Gotcha on the size thing. The tested lux figures are very helpful as we all know manufacturers embellish (and some are refreshingly conservative but rare).
I had no idea the Amutorch JM70II performs as well as it does so that was helpful.

I considered that. In a way I find it redundant - because it can be calculated from throw.
In a way I find it useful - because some of us are used to operating on kcd, some on throw, some on both. This would make the list more comprehensive for some users. OTOH too much data becomes confusing.
I for this reason I consider removing the “BLF UI” column.

I hesitated to do that because throw is really bad compared to the others here.
But is it a thrower? Certainly not a flooder. Not intermediate beam (which I call floower) either.

great thread! i think it would be useful to include whether they include some form of current control as this makes a fairly big difference to real world use and for example is a big difference between the p30 and the GT mini / d1s. that’s just me though.

I’m about to add many missing throwers, mainly older ones from:
But that M25C2 Turbo doesn’t really feel “medium sized”.
I feel I need to adjust the definition. And I feel that adding an upper limit on head diameter is the right way of doing so.
I feel that Amutorch JM70 II at 72 mm is still medium sized, so I’d set probably something north of that. As JM70 has the largest diameter of all lights listed so far that would not result in anything being evicted from the list.
Would an upper limit of 75 mm be consistent with others’ feelings of what “medium size” is?
At the lower end I also have doubts. I already said that I would be tempted to enlist Acebeam L16, but don’t want to open the pandora box of C8-like lights. But is an inclusion of a light with head size 2 mm larger than C8 and XM-L2 really beneficial? This would make me consider moving the minimal size up to 50 mm. But those Archers are really outstanding performers and deserve listing. 48 mm limit? Quite arbitrary, isn’t it? And actually includes an underdriven 30 kcd Klarus XTQ2.
So maybe I should set a lower limit on throw instead of on size? 90 kcd? That would remove Manker U22 from the list (why does it throw so bad?). Acebeam L16, Astrolux C8 would be included. I don’t know whether I should keep some zoomies for which I lack throw data. It would no longer be a list of medium size throwers, should probably be renamed somehow.

Also, I’m really not happy with the “lowest price ever” column. Because I severely lack data to fill it. I don’t want to change that to the listed price as it doesn’t really provide any information. For some lights one struggles to buy 20% cheaper, for others 60% is frequent.

I’d like to remove the “type” column and in the “Light” one - add a photo below the name. A photo that shows the optics, so type can be deduced.
I have some sustainability worries. Work on it is takes major effort, I may not be able to continue doing it forever. I believe that making it editable to wider public could be beneficial, but at the same I’m not sure what would be a good way to do this or if there are really any people interested in editing it.

That would be controversial with Manker U21 which is on the edge, but I could keep it because some measurements show it as throwier than the Astrolux. 
Also, I lack throw data for quite a few lights; this reduces applicability of this rule.
But it would really help avoid adding outdated stuff to the list while keeping it size-based.
BTW it’s funny that according to the specs, that huge m25c2 throws just 6.5% farther than Acebeam L16 despite being 2.3 times larger. It’s barely throwier than Astrolux C8.
Yes to both points but an exception should be made for commonly modded lights.
That is my reason for following the thread. I am more interested in looking through the list for modding potential. If you can double the kcd easily (and I dont mean throw a black/white flat in and call it a thrower all the sudden). If you can put a commonly available driver in without messing with glue and custom heat sinks it should be considered based on its potential kcd.
Take a wikipedia approach? Ie, let others edit it, but be able to revert back in case someone screws it up (or intentionally sabotages it).
Very useful table. I think you copied the throw data from the Maxtoch M1 to the M2. M2 throws less.
