The 6th Annual BLF Old Lumens - machine made - Pinkpanda's Entry

Lol, you so funny…

I came home early enough to get some more done today.

I don’t have stainless so I made the bezel out of titanium. I kinda like the way titanium cuts.

Well, it will just have to do
Nice :+1:

That knurling is so neat. What type of knurler are you using as it appears to be an opposite knurl if that makes sense.

Well spotted Moose. I’m trying out this new knurling wheel. The end product looks aggressive but it doesn’t feel like you’re holding a metal working file. This is the first time I’ve used it. The down side is this type of wheel is it cannot travel up and down the work piece. Knurl one section then disengage and knurl the next section.

That knurling is pretty. I didn’t notice it was any different until MRsDNF pointed it out. Now, I want all my flashlights to have that knurling.

Do you have re-align the knurling wheel each time you move it?

Yes, it would need to be re-aligned but honestly I think it would be very hard to align it seamlessly. So I think grooves to partition each knurled section would be a better option. Much like this pic I found -

Wow the light looks stunning

Thanks for the heads up. Its an interesting looking knurl. Does it put much load on the lathe?

It does put a sideways load on the chuck, I probably should’ve used the tail stock or steady rest when I knurled the head part but you know…. I’m a lazy bugger :person_facepalming:

Given it’s a single wheel operation it couldn’t be used in a clamp style knurl holding tool. So there is no avoiding that sideways load.

Thanks EDSG. Stunning isn’t the word I would have used

I think EDSG was talking about that brass object. :stuck_out_tongue:

Damn! Lol, that thing isn’t even a light :weary:

Coming along nicely :+1:

Love the knurling.

I had a pretty crummy day today. Took the family dog to the vet to be euthanized. I tried to get some machining done in the afternoon but my head wasn’t in the game plus I was getting a number of interruptions from the family.

I ‘did’ get a bit done but the body is far from finished. I still need to shape and thread the tail as well as bore it out to the right size.

Sorry if you can’t see the video. I just got notified of copywrite on the music. Will re-do the video with different music tomorrow.

Sorry about your dog mate.

Very sorry to hear about your dog. That is a tearful event.
